People need to remember, we're not Man United, we're Aston Villa - we're not entitled or have any divine right to have Ancelotti etc...

Nothing has even been announced on SSN and yet people on here are already pontifcating.

Everyone on here a few hours ago were certain Rafa was going to be manager.

Shame on you that you think we are a lower status Football Club than  manu . Form is temporary class is permanent. We are a class Club.

Mazrim, I remember your confidence about how this summer would pan out, including in transfer terms. I've always been more pessimistic. Are you still feeling confident? I really fear we're on road to the doldrums

Yes I am because I dont believe these stories and think we'll appoint somebody impressive and back him.

I would seriously prefer McLaren - and I don't want him near our club

I don't know if I'd want him under any circumstances, however I could at least understand the thought patterns that would end in choosing McLaren.

The only reason I can possibly see for deciding on Martinez is that he's good at getting decent players in for no money. The problem is that those players perform well because they know they're doing so at a club which is set up around buying players and selling them on.

That's not going to be the case here, one hopes.

if wigan had finished 7th , i would have said yes but they didnt.
Quite.  Am I right in thinking Wigan were closer to the drop this season than they were last?  If results on the last day had been slightly different, would we be asking to talk to Holloway?

I was strong in my opposition to Hughes a few days ago but he's a far more credible candidate than Martinez.

Hopefully it's just more rumours but given how strong the field is if Randy's search leads him to Martinez then you have to ask serious questions of the board.  Such as "what the fuck are they doing?"

He is not a manager who is the finished article like Benitez and ancelotti but he is ambitious and has talent. It is achievement in itself to keep Wigan in the Premier league amongst much bigger clubs who have gone down in recent years. He also did much to develop Swansea.

I think we may be pleasantly surprised if the fans give him the chance. I'd much rather have a manager like this than one who might just move on within 2 years

Maybe the board will read these messages boards again and choose not to have Martinez but have somebody else already lined up.Like MM said about the smoke mirrors.....?

That's the thing.

Back him with massive money in January, see him under pressure, then see results actually improve, yet you still want him out so much, you remove him at considerable expense, despite him having a pretty good bill of health, only to then turn to Roberto Martinez?

I think Martinez would be a good manager at a decent club (which hopefully we still are!). I'd be happier than some of the other options. He's ambitious and encourages good football.

Why do some people assume it's a 'cheap' appointment? He'll be on good wages and I am sure with the numbers leaving he will be given quite a bit of money to spend. Don't confuse Wigan with Villa. We may sell our best player(s) every year but that doesn't mean everyone at the club is for sale and things must be done on the cheap.

The old man would be chuffed to bits, he loves Martinez for some reason.   I myself cannot see the appeal, please let this be horlicks!

Anyone hear Pat Murphy on 5Live saying Lerner had cancelled Shteve's job interview because the fans forums have made it clear that he wasn't the man WE wanted??  Why don't we all let the board do their jobs?  Gods I hope we don't get Benitez, I can't stand the prick.  However if he is the man on the bench next season I will still be a proud Villa fan.  This club is more than it's manager, chairman, or CEO and it's certainly more than us.  If you don't support the board you know what you can do about it.

Wigan are worse under Martinez than they were under Steve Bruce.  For me, he's shown nothing to suggest he has anything like what it will take to get us to where we want to go.
