As other have said, Martinez says "doing it on the cheap" to me. Could turn out to be a good appointment but it very much spells the end of Villa thinking big

It says no ambition.

It'd be hard to tally the 'challenging for the CL in five years' think with appointing a manager whose speciality seems to be survival.

I would be underwhelmed but Wigan is a tin pot selling club and judging anyone on their league finishes is a bit harsh.

To be fair Kendrick has been pretty much spot on with his information, so I'd say there's definately some truth in it.

There may well be but I am told he has said:-

Roberto Martinez the front-runner after Dave Whelan gave #avfc permission to talk to the Spaniard.

That could translate into the only candidate he is aware of. I am not saying if I believe Martinez is good or bad, I just think people need to take into account it is one candidate for a very important job. There may well be another by tomorrow night, like there was today, yesterday and so on.

Going back to a point dave woodhall made a few days ago, surely Randy wouldn't have gone through the painful and presumably costly business of letting Houllier go just to appoint someone like Martinez?

Certainly could find himself totally out of his depth, very risky!

That's what I'm clinging on to.

I would seriously prefer McLaren - and I don't want him near our club

Mazrim, I remember your confidence about how this summer would pan out, including in transfer terms. I've always been more pessimistic. Are you still feeling confident? I really fear we're on road to the doldrums

People need to remember, we're not Man United, we're Aston Villa - we're not entitled or have any divine right to have Ancelotti etc...

Nothing has even been announced on SSN and yet people on here are already pontifcating.

Everyone on here a few hours ago were certain Rafa was going to be manager.

There are about a hundred potential managerial appointments between Ancelotti and Martinez. Make no bones about it but Martinez is potentially an awful appointment. It could likely end up worse than we would had we took one of the safe pairs of hands that so many have been keen to turn their noses up at.

Appointing Martinez is a bit out of left field, but to be fair he doesn't come with the baggage that some of the others e.g. McClaren, Benitez bring with them. Seems like a nice bloke but it's still a hell of a risk if it doesn't work out.

Also clinging to fact that it wouldn't tally with MM's snippet. And it would be very strange to kill things with RB and McClaren if we are just going through the prelims with someone like martinez.

Yep. Makes no sense to me, unless we're really up shit-creek money wise
