I'm not endorsing the fella, but if we can forget the England shambles, I would put him in the same bracket as Hughton, Martinez, O'Neill etc.

He's still a t***, though.

Jesus

With some of the names mentioned here like Poyet I can save everyone time and momey.

I work with Jamie Pitman's (Hereford Utd manager) wife.

Do you want me to put a word in - it's about as bloody credible as some suggestions on here !

Oh,

And I played football with Simon Cowell, Haddaway,, Rick Astley and Andy Pickles (aka Jive bunny) - do I win ?

1992/3 Season

Trinity College of Music 2 - Royal Academy of Music 1

In which your humble correspondent played on the winning side against a RAM team that featured happy-clappy boy soprano Aled Jones. Although in his twenties by then, it didn't stop the Trinity side from a: communicating with each other only in squeaky falsettos and b: breaking his ankle (trumpeter Dave Peers, with an awesome two-footed sliding tackle).

Oh, and I've said it twice now, and I'm going to keep on: Rijkaard!

Rijkaard!!!!

Can't believe anyone would seriously even consider Gus Poyet.  We are Aston Villa for goodness sake, who the hell is he in managerial terms?  We need an experienced top level manager such as Ancelotti or Moyes IMO

Who the hell was Moyes in managerial terms before he went to Everton?

and can you once again for my benefit count all the trophies Moyes has won for Everton?

I'm suprised no-one has mentioned Klinsmann. Not sure what he is doing at the moment but he did a good job with producing the players that now make up the german national side. I wonder if he could do a similar job with our youngsters bringing them through the transition to the first team. Of course Ancelotti would be my first choice but Klinsmann could be an outside chance.

It is straight forward.
1. Ancelotti if not
2. Van Gaal if not
3. Jol if not
4. Rijkaard

It's not that difficult just get on with it Randy!

No, I'm sure you can manage.

However, he has got Everton into the top four and Champions League, which is probably our realistic target in terms of the league. He's bought well from the lower leagues with players like Lescott and Jagielka going onto the England team, which would be a useful skill to have. He's introduced players from the youth academy into the side such as Rooney, Osman (I think) and Coleman, again which our new manager will have to do. He can organise a defence, which we desperately need some one to do.

It's not that straightforward though is it? You're missing out the crucial stage in between approach and appointment where the person actually agrees to join.

Jol may well be a target, as he's had trophies, but no ITK info.
Ooh, the Dutch Cup with Ajax five years ago and Roda JC nearly two decades ago.

That's worth appointing a manager on.

As someone who prides themselves (and pisses other people off ;)) on fact and accuracy, I must point out that he actually won the Dutch Cup with Ajax last year, in the 2009/10 season. (And with Roda it was a mere 14 years ago).
Five years ago he missed out on getting Spurs into the Champions League on the last day so he's hardly unproven.

And I think in his one full year at Ajax they scored 106 goals and let in a very low number, just one of those things that they lost out to Twente probably?

Admittedly, it was Mclaren who finished above him then. But Jol's done much more in Germany and England.

What the hell was Milner doing in the wall just then by the way?!

I don't think you can read too much into the odds, they always move around loads.

I can't see there's been anything to move things over the weekend. I don't think either Randy or Faulkner are actually around. I reckon we'll have a much better idea in a week's time.
