See, of all those outside the "big names" mentioned, I would be intrigued by Poyet. We had this discussion a while back. Quality job at Brighton, big enough name to bring good people with him. Out of the blue, and certainly different.

I see Poyet as similar to Martinez when he was at Swansea. He's just got Prem experience now.

Poyet would be a gamble, so maybe a young manager like him would come in with an experienced DOF?

Poyet too inexperienced for me. About a year as coach at Spuds and not much more as manager of Brighton.  He's done well so far but too much of a risk for me

Poyet could be a possible assistant to Ancelloti?

That would be my choice (in a parallel dimension where we also sign Milner and rebuild the old holte end.)

With players wanting to leave and needing to be replaced, Poyet is too much of a gamble. No thanks.

I'd have Poyet.
He looks to have the makings of a top manager, knows top football and has been successful in his limited experience.

He has to prove himself but even the very best managers had to start somewhere - Ferguson was a young unproven manager at Aberdeen.

Achieving something with Wigan is reaching mid table, staying up by the skin of your teeth is not.

If his name was Bob Martin he wouldn't get a second thought.

Forget the octopus: I listed the possibles on pieces of paper and my Dog made his his immediate choice.

Bob Martin.

The 'good football' argument does not wash when the results are poor.

If we ticked over getting top eight playing the Allardyce or Stoke way I wouldn't be interested. No really successful team plays that way, I want to see my team try and play the way Barca do. It's effective and great to watch. The next manager's style of play is important to me.

And to me, but I wouldn't sacrifice results for style of play, but that's just me!

Absolutely right. In the long term anyway. How many teams have risen to the prem and surprised until they were worked out, and simply, because they played one, direct, aggressive way. Then they cannot change and the confidence goes, they get beaten . Down they go. Give me a creative thinking manager anytime for the long term.
We then attract the better players and a positive cycle begins. In fairness (from a Houllier doubter) this is what he may of being attempting.

It's a balance, you need results but if you start playing good football that will come.

Gus Poyet's record isn't very different to Graham Turner's when we took him on.

Someone else can take the risk.

Step forward currently unemployed CL and La Liga winning manager Franklin Edmundo Rijkaard?!
