No way! We may as well hire Avram and start planning for the Championship. I was thoroughly underwhelmed by links to Hughes and Benetiz, and Moyes to be honest, but if it means we don't get MacLaren, I'd LOVE anyone of them to be our next manager. (Keegan voice:) I WOULD LOVE IT!

I think he's a decent coach but an average to poor manager.  He might work well under a DoF but I think his best role is head coach under a charismatic manager as he was under SAF.  I'm afraid Shteve has the charisma of a toilet brush and is seen as too much of a comedy figure to be taken seriously.

" I come to Birmingham to Manage the Villa lyke, and I look forward to Managing a premiership team now. The team play in claret and blue, I've never managed a team in claret and blue before, so this is a really big challenge, you know wot I mean lyke'

'Up the Villa !'

No thank you is my answer.

Suns it up nicely for me.

I don't want to be rude about as after the kicking he got from the media he's bounced back well abroad, but don't think he's the right apointment for us.

I'm not that opposed to this, he'd have to win over the fans quickly but I think he could do a good job. A European cup final and League title with two unfashionable small teams reads better than anything on Moyes CV. Ok he cocked up the England job but that chalice is more poisoned than Harold Shipmans medicine cabinet. Plus he manages to get the best out of meagre resources just look at how much scalp his very thin hair covers.

I think we can do better, but I'd be willing to give him a chance.

I'm always confused when people throw a losing cup final in as a highlight on his CV. Basically he won a league cup with Boro in the middle of some mediocre league placings, failed in the England job, got lots of credit for winning the Dutch league with a small club (even though that club had been runners up the year before so he hardly took them from nowhere), then failed in Germany. Throw in the brolley and the Dutch accent and I'm spectacularly underwhelmed by him. No prizes for guessing I'm not his agent.

I would like to know the Boro fans take on him. I seem to remember at the time he got them to the UEFA cup final, he was well liked and respected by Boro fans. Plus, i take the "failed in the England job" with a pinch of salt, bearing in mind our own experiences with SGT. The brolly and the accent are definite mind farts.
I would be interested to see what he could do in the PL, as i think he may have what it takes, but it would be a big gamble, that if i was Randy i wouldn't take. So a no for me.

i assume you would be even more opposed to Moyes then, using the same criteria

Steve McLaren with Boro- 12th,11th,7th,11th,14th

David Moyes with Everton- 7th,17th,4th,11th,6th,5th,5th,8th

Moyes is a better manager for me and would be welcomed a lot more enthuiastically by most of the fans I would imagine.

yeah i know, but he's still won nothing,
a league place is no better than getting to a final and losing,  still both losers although from Stevie has won stuff.
i dont want him by the way, i'm just just arguing your argument about a different manager.

i personaly dont think the criterier should be what you have won elsewhere, Houllier was a winner in trophey terms, but didnt gurantee success
i would like Coyle, and aint won a bean yet

Moyes has done a very good job overall at Everton. He hasn't had vast resources, but when his team are all fit and on song they look a very good side that play some nice football. He can spot a talent as well. A combination of him and (hopefully) a decent amount of money from Randy would be our best chance of Champions League and maybe a cup success. I don't think anyone could take us further than that at the moment. And on a personal level, Moyes looks like someone to be taken seriously, McClaron just looks and acts like an almighty twat, and i just couldn't bear to watch him being interviewed as a Villa manager.

so lets get Moyes the loser in,
he's been at Everton a big club compared to any club McClaren has managed, yet McClaren is a proven winner but is a joke figure.
give me a winning joke figure over a boring loser anyday

i dont actually think any of this really, just playing devils you know what

I didn't mean to help turn this into McLaren v Moyes. Of all the people I've heard mentioned I like Moyes, Jol and Allardyce. People like Coyle and Lambert would be a gamble, could be a stroke of genius or could be a disaster. I don't think Benitez is right for us although his record with Valencia and Liverpool is decent. I can honestly say though that Steve McLaren wouldn't be in my top ten choices.

what i'm saying is that if you like the look of someone you can always build a case for him, and build in the stats to support your case
like you say Moyes would be far more welcome to VP than McClaren, yet McClaren is the winner out of the two, with modest clubs, while Moyes has won nothing whilst at a decent sized club
i dont want either, but if i had to pick out of the two it would be a toss of a coin

I don't think he's that bad, there are just better options.
