Well, I am pretty sure the club are trying to slash the wage bill aren't they by something like 30% - then surely by the same note they could afford a 30% reduction in ticket costs.

Yeah as if that is likely !!!.

Sorry, the club don't give a shitge about us.

We've had 3 months of posts on here about how crap the club's finances are and questionning the boards ability to do something about it.  When they do something there are complaints too!  Cutting wages is to try to balance the books, not to give away season tickets.

Ultimately, it's just the way it is in life, not just football.  If people are willing to pay for something then it can't be overpriced.  Average attendances in the top flight being consistently higher than the majority of the post-war era suggest it's not overpriced as there are plenty of people willing to pay it each week.  Everyone said the Champions League final was overpriced - I tried to get tickets and lost out in the ballot because it was oversubscribed!!!

We've been talking about a watershed for years and it's never arrived.  The key driver to all of this is the ridiculous wages players get but the Villa can't do much about that unless we're happy to accept worse players than everyone else.  Unless something happens to the structure of football in general the club are going to have to keep upping prices just to stand still.

In this climate, the club seem to have made the best of a bad situation so fair play to them.

how about making the players cough up. I worked it out the other month - if every player took a 1000 pound pay cut - now that is basically saying "accept 59000 a week instead of 60 !" - every season ticket could be offered FREE !!!!!

How you work that out??

33 First team squad, thats £33,000 a week if they took a £1,000 week pay cut each, or £1,716,000 a year. How many season ticket holders we got?? 22,000. Thats £78 off each season ticket.

Firstly, i can't complain about how much i pay in the Upper Holte, i moved there from the Lower North to sit with a mate two seasons ago. I expected it to go up about a quid a game anyway, so i'm not too annoyed. £210 in the Upper Holte for an under 16 sounds a bit steep though.

As for the benefits, i think they could have gone a bit further, like maybe free entry into the Holte Suite or The Academy. I think the 10th month payment plan is a fantastic idea though and will really help people out so fair play to the club for that.

Another comparison - season ticket for Kidderminster Harriers is £228 standing/£278 seated, so an extra £242 (about £12.50 a game) for me to watch 19 Premier League games instead of 23 non-league games doesn't seem over the top to be fair

Don't try to compare non-league or even lower league prices with Premier League prices, there is nothing like the TV revenue or prize money down there, practically all the revenue at Kiddy has to come from sponsorship, gate money and whatever fund raising schemes they can come up with.

Yes but the cost to the supporter of season tickets is even.further out of kilter with what you get than premier league season tickets are.

Whatever the economics, 280 quid to watch Kiddeeminster play is mental. We all know there is something very wrong with the money side of the PL but that figure suggests non league is even worse.

Do you know the VERY LEAST I expected out of this - ST holders have free entry into the Holte Suite or Pu and a free cup game after this years debacle but no ! , so no, sorry , I ain't impressed with a car sticker and a welcome DVD costing £30 !!!

It does piss me off that season ticket holders can't use the Holte pub without paying £4 to get in.

£15 increase in the Upper Holte wings for me, 80p per match increase means ours works out to £21.30 per match, bargain really compared to the extortional prices we pay to go away to some bogs - the payment plans are a big help though.

You do have choice as to whether to go or not. If it's that bad why do you go? Not meaning to be a prick, but your entire post is as if the club have completely screwed you. I appreciate the cost of football isn't for everyone, therefore you have a choice. There are plenty of other ways you can support your team.

In the real world, costs have gone up massively. Do you really expect any business, football or otherwise to continue to absorb costs if the costs being levied on them go up? It's not reasonable. I think our club tries to understand the demanding times as much, if not more than most, but in the end, in order to remain competitive in one of the worlds most competitive football leagues, it has generate revenue. That's real life. It won't be for everyone. It never has been.

Whilst my stance is a little different from Paul's (see prev page), yours is somewhat extreme, isn't it?

You seem to be basically saying "costs go up, the price goes up, if you can't afford it, tough shit, watch MOTD or something". If the club took that approach, we'd be in a very sticky situation indeed.

Paulie, it's not that at all. You have to make choices in life. If your personal situation changes you need to adjust accordingly. If going to the Villa is important, as it was to me when I lived there, I decided to go. It meant there were other things I couldn't do. That's the choice I made given my disposable income.

The club are doing what they can given the sensitivity of the economy to minimize the increases. Because I'm sure they could have increased it by more. Or they could have decreased the season ticket prices, not invested in players like Bent, and the team could have continued to struggle and they'd have been criticised for that. As fans we can't have it all. Sorry if I don't sound overly sympathetic, but a football club isn't immune to the realities of rising costs anymore than you or I are. Unfortunately they are in an industry that shows little sign in controlling itself, and either they go along with it by trying to provide the best product possible (which is going to cost money) or they don't and there are potentially even more serious consequences if they deciede to do that.

Not sure if I'm renewing though for me and the two kids an increase in the family stand of £40 is a bit much
Even if I do I'll be moving
The large 'lady' who now sits next to me seems to think that its ok for her fat arse to take up half of my seat as well! :'(

Sounds a bit risque myself - I'm single and happy to be so - couldn't afford a partner.

Think I'll do the same as I did last season,

Bumble through to Xmas on the cheap 5 games for 100 quid type deals plus 20 quid rerstricted view seats in the Upper witton which I had for the Baggies game. Then I'll probably get a half season ticket for 220 quid at Xmas.

I'll imagine they'll be plenty of the game combination deals as I think we'll lose a fair few season ticket holders this summer for various reasons.

Read the 13 pages of the thread and you will see why I and many many others go the football.

And it AINT the football !!!

Oh and the other thing - I know you are in Canada so you may not know, but the UK is ON ITS KNEES !!!!.

I am on a 2 yr pay freeze, that have increased my pension by 2 percent and utility bills have gone up nearly 100% in two years !! - and I am one of the lucky ones, I am one that has kept his job !!!

So excuse me for not being excited when I, and 40500 others are charged extra money so we can offer Ashley at least 80000 a week instead of 60000 !!!

how about making the players cough up. I worked it out the other month - if every player took a 1000 pound pay cut - now that is basically saying "accept 59000 a week instead of 60 !" - every season ticket could be offered FREE !!!!!

THAT IS HOW APPALLING THIS ALL IS - it is not the figure , it is how football , not Villa, FOOTBALL, is taking the piss out of us - and they know they can coz you will always have people like Shrek saying "I am Villa til I die, whatever the cost, Ill pay it"

Well personally, I bloody hope a lot (maybe including me) dont !

It has long been the case that the 90 minutes of the game are the worst part of the day, especially at away games which are a great day out and definitely better than pushing a trolley around Tesco.
I agree with you that football is taking the piss. Everyone is struggling but we still have to pay ridiculous money to them that is totally out of proportion with the rest of us mere mortals. We will renew as we always, robotically, do but I can't blame people who decide to call it a day. People need to understand the economic situation. You have to put food on the table before buying season tickets. If everytime you brought bread from a shop it was mouldy you would go elsewhere. The same applies when considering the ridiculous cost of watching shit football.

I'm sort of considering North Stand. It'd cost me £440 in the lower Holte as a student, or £360 standard in lower North. I imagine the atmosphere is better in the North due to the location of the away supporters, but I'm put off by the supposed lack of leg room. I don't recall ever sitting in the lower North, althoguh I have in the upper a few times.

Just a bit hesitant to give up my seat (had it for years and it's great), and worried incase North Stand redevelopment starts and we get shifted about mid-season or something.
