I would stress that the club should not consider any merchandising or free gifts in association with this. Not that I'm complaining (unlike some grouches on here, I love it when the club give away scarves and flags etc) but this has to be a fan-only thing IMO. I would even advise for them to keep their big flag away as it might detract from the sentiment. If they can advertise it, get their PR people onto it on Facebook, Twitter etc AND also inform the hosts of the special buses (I know Maggie on my bus is in touch with a lot of people who catch it on a social level) that it's 'scarf day' and to get the word out.

What I would stress to them is to play some stirring bloody tunes, a few Villa anthems, and don't get gimps like Red Pepper (or whatever he was called) to read out teams. Get the blood pumping and let the fans do the rest.

Spoke at length to the marketing department this morning. It is most definitely being seen as a fan-generated initiative which the club would simply like to promote and support. Nothing is being done actively by them until Thursday/Friday. I believe that someone is being interviewed on Thursday by AVTV and a press release is being put together on Monday for publication at the weekend. They wish to link to the Facebook group as well as the threads on the fan sites that are behind the campaign as well as generate some positive local and national media interest.

That's great news. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ungrateful for any help the club might give and I'm glad they appreciate the way this has originated.

The Villa have decided to back the "The bells are ringing" as the club anthem. They've had some demo tapes made and have invited some of the old boys to the Holte Pub  to sing it and film it on April 4th at 6pm. I don't know if it is a "come one, come all" invitation.

I've been told 5pm. Wouldn't want you to miss it.

Could potentially set up a workshop for people to make their own flags and pool together resources, we (brigada 1874) have access to somewhere that's big enough to do this and we have a little experience and can get our hands on the equipment needed. I personally think this idea is fantastic at a time when getting behind the team for the clubs sake is the most important thing! If we can create a sea of claret and blue and a caludron of noise we'll surely spur the players on.

I myself favour knocking the contemporary pop music on the head and getting the stadium DJ to play music from the glory years. Instant nostalgia, gets people going, lots of recognisable songs, lots of singing. a few flags and about twenty thousand scarf waving Villa fans would be a very intimidating addition.

Apart from a few wasps in danger of being swatted, who on earth is going to be intimidated by fans waving scarves?
We are playing Newcastle, not St Trinians.

I sit on the front row of the Upper Tier of the Doug Ellis stand, right in the corner by the Holte End. I'm happy to drape a banner from there to help generate an atmosphere. (Positive banners that is)

But a cauldron of noise from the fans getting behind the players, instead of the quietness and booing etc of late will surely spur them on. If it doesn't then to a man they should be shot.
If the fans show that no matter how shit the team have been they are behind them, then that should be enough to lift them. If they don't up the game ith full support and backing then maybe they don't deserve to play for our great club.
