Regardless of how we feel about who's in charge of OUR club and who's playing for OUR club there's a campaign on facebook etc for all us Villa fans to bring a scarf/flag to wave and show our support for our club and raise the rafters off the roof against Newcastle. If no-one else at the club gives a shit lets show everyone on national TV (and international TV) what great fans we can be and how much our club means to us by offering our vocal support all game. Please pass this message on to all villa fans you know and then if ever the unthinkable happens and we get relegated at least we've done our part in the remaining games.
-
That's the spirit.
-
Good initiative
-
Is it ok if my flag says "Houllier out"?? :p
-
This will make a change from a FLASK AND A BLANKET!
-
Good lad jonboy and welcome.
-
Is the commemorative scarf from the Hamburg game de riguer ?
-
Great idea. This is what we need to do,
-
good idea lets get right behind the VILLA, remember its for life!
-
Ok you got me, I'm in.
-
Need to raise the roof for this one, i'm all for it.
We'll be up for it, but will the players?
-
Can I take my Villa top off and swing it around my head like a big fat Geordie? Except obviously I'm as hot as fuck with minimal man-boobs.
-
I've got a nice Paul Smith scarf that I could wear, but what if the sun is shining?
I don't own any flags but I could nick one from one of the greens on the Lickey Hills golf course if that's any help.
Seriously, good on you mate for trying to get things going. Hope it works.
-
this could become the biggest mass suicide ever
if we lose everyone could strangle themselves
only joking
i'm in
-
Great idea, come on the Villa Boys
-
Yea this sounds god to me.
-
Can't knock this can you?
Not sure if I can go yet but I'll drag the old scarf from the 80/81 season out of the cupboard if I do.
-
I admire the sentiment but I'm definitely not bringing any form of ligature to the Newcastle game.
-
Fair play for trying to get this going. Maybe post a link here to the facebook page as well?
-
I've got a nice Paul Smith scarf that I could wear, but what if the sun is shining?
How about a silk cravatte and hunting breeches?
-

Chris is actually more of an Armani man
Armani and Navy.

I think the 'Paul Smith' scarf Chris refers to belongs to his cousin, one of those Dr Who jobbies, probably knitted by his Nan.

We can use them to throttle Ireland and Barton whilst we're there.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
-
I'm in.
Ditto.
-
count me in!
lets get behind the boys and get 3 points for the Villa!!! "stadium speaker anyone"?
-
brilliant idea, and make sure the flag gets a outing in lower holte
-
Fair play for trying to get this going. Maybe post a link here to the facebook page as well?
Not sure how to do this would someone be able to do this for me please
-
The only flag i own is a star of David i was given after completing three months on a kibbutz in 1987.
I'm not bringing it, though, as I've since developed a healthy disrespect for the state of Israel.
*right on, comrades*
-
Cant something be knitted for the occasion? Yogurt perhaps?
-
I have a nice hand knitted Villa scarf from the '60's that I could bring that the then future first Mrs Adio toiled over on long winter nights.
I had to stop wearing it because we lost every time I wore it. I don't think she ever forgave me. (Mind you we lost most of the time when I didn't wear it as well.)
-
I am sure I can dig something out.
-
this is a great idea. We need to put our anger, frustrations, personal differences and biases aside and get behind OUR team. If you don't want to support Houllier, that's fine. But it's still Aston Villa out there, and we need to be a Premier League team next season. Let's do everything we can to help that cause.
-
Where's Brigada and his handful of Ultras when you most need them?
-
Scarf at the ready..where's the link on facebook though?
-
Cracking idea. I might be at that so will definitely bring my scarf.
-
Brilliant idea and welcome aboard Jonboy.
-
Great idea we have got to do something can,t just stand by and watch our beloved Aston Villa Football Club
sink further into the mire-----irrespective of your views on the manager----
Come on You Villa Boys---------lets all stand together---our clubs future is at stake
"Your club sure needs you"-------now more than ever---
-
Great idea, and lets keep up the support even if we go behind or a pass is misplaced.
Also I think packing them in is important. The game is catorgory A so fan paying game by game will need to dig deep again. There is a thread on the Generals questions about making a ticket offer for the remaining home games and I really hope the club consider this.
This is not me after cheap tickets- I have a season ticket- but if the other seats can see a few decent tickets promotions and we get 38k+ for the rest of the season that would be great. It may happen anyway if we show fighting spirit from here on in but if the club get behind this it would be a very good thing imo.
-
I always wear the one Randy gave us a couple of years ago. It used to bring us luck but has worn off this season!!
-
The only flag i own is a star of David i was given after completing three months on a kibbutz in 1987.
I'm not bringing it, though, as I've since developed a healthy disrespect for the state of Israel.
*right on, comrades*
I make a point of never buying their fruit and veg.
-
I can't seem to choose between my 'proud history bright future' scarf or my Moscow home leg flag.
-
A much better idea than that bloody Newcastle 'protest' suggestion. jonboy, PM me with the link and I'll add it.
-
Is this it? (http://www.facebook.com/#!/notes/north-walsall-lions-official-aston-villa-supporters-club/bring-a-scarf-day/142934709105229)
-
Good call, jonboy, and welcome!
I hope to be at The Olde Ship Pub in Santa Ana with a few more exiled Villa faithfull for the Neyowkassurl game. My scarf akimbo.
Our football club is - and always has been - bigger than any individuals and that includes players, managers et all.
-
Sounds like a good plan. I'll bring a scarf.
-
Good work. If ever a time called for my lucky 1986 scarf this is it....hold em high!
-

Would it be worth someone setting up a proper group or page as that may spread the word a bit more?
-
OK. I'll do it.
-
Yes.
-
Will this do? (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_199433363412189#!/home.php?sk=group_199433363412189&ap=1)

Looks good, maybe add Aston Villa to the title, assuming it will fit?
-
Was hoping something like this would take off - the old 57 FA Cup scarf will be there, its more grey than blue and the Super Mac badge has seen better days but its a winner and time to make some new memories. Think I'll leave the CSKA flag at home.
-
A lovely idea and i hope it really takes off in a big way, bearing in mind we're on the tellybox.
-
Im in. ;D

No idea, i've never set up a group on fb. Is there an edit title option? My thinking was if it has Aston Villa in the title it may appear whenever anyone searches.
Maybe add a generic Villa picture as well, and then anyone who is a member can click the share the button and post on their wall to promote the idea to friends who are Villa.
Hope i'm being more of a help than a hindrance!
-
And already edited, good work!
Anyone who is a member of the page can add friends who are Villa fans, so get joining and adding!
-
Just stuck a photo up on the page wall that can maybe be used short term as the page profile pic until someone comes up with something better?
-
Can we have a group with PLAYERS: BRING SOME BALLS, GUTS AND TALENT TO THE GAME?
-
Thanks. I've done my best.
-
Great idea.
-
Nah I think I will just sit there with my hands in my pockets and moan.
-
(http://)what a good idea.I hope it works
-
Seriously I think it is an excellent initiative and I shall wave a stars and stripes to show appreciation of and support for our owner and the General.
-
If this may be a runner then someone should tell The General. Get the big flag out pre match etc.
-
Somebody has got right behind the Villa by filling my inbox with spam. I am so psyched
-
your post has inspired me to get my tickets. Upper Holte, let's go.
We'll never die, we'll never die, we'll keep the villa flag flying high.
-
The official flag or ours, currently held by Leighton?
-
Can someone make a flag of a giant orange dot?
-
Just passed the 250 members mark. Not bad as we only sorted the page a few hours ago Legion!
-
Im in , If i dont see no passion from the players. I will hang the bastards with mine...
-
If we beat Everton can we go back to sitting on our hands and grumbling?
-
Ask not what your club can do for you...
-
Ask not what your club can do for you...
Ask Nicola Keye instead.
-
Bring a scarf?
Why, is the cold snap returning?
If just one of our £20-£40k a week players is inspired to play better by me being wrapped up warm then we're doomed. I would hope that for that money every one of them would come come out and give it f***ing everything whatever I decide to wear.
I already give them all the help I can by parking in my lucky spot every week and wearing my lucky pants.
Gerard's scarf doesn't seem to do the trick does it? But then that's just product placement from the marketing department who noticed Man City had sold more scarves since Mancini started modelling them.
And on the subject of scarves - if I ever see anyone in one of those poxy "friendship" scarves you see nowadays with the name of both teams on, I will hang them with the f***ing thing.
Friendship scarves, my arse!
-
Several clappy emoticons for DeKuip. If the players' performance changes because of scarf waving, its a traveshamockery
-
Not so much the scarf or flag waving, but the generation of a positive atmosphere. Far better than those idiots planning on a protest.
-
I've spread it around the 5 of us shall be taking scarfs in the Lower Holte. Be great if we could get that massive flag, too.
-
I'm going to take various bits of artwork from Pink Floyd's 'The wall' album.
-
I'm going to take various bits of artwork from Pink Floyd's 'The wall' album.
You bastard. I was going to take the inflatable pig from 'Animals'.
-
I admire the sentiment but these pre-meditated atmosphere generation exercises always seem to backfire. The Blues game in 2003 was hyped up to the point of hysteria and look where that got us. I aslo seem to recall some European game with free flags given out that went a bit pear shaped if I recall correctly.

I suggest he books an appointment to have it surgically removed later that evening.
-
A bellend?
Isn't that one of the stands at Man City?
-
Some of this is getting a bit out of order. Even idiots are allowed their opinions.
-
i can ave opinion to you no or are you a steward?
Did it occur to you at any point that maybe waving your banner might have been more widely supported, and have had less of a negative effect on the team and crowd if you'd done it after the match, rather than before?
If, indeed, you have to do it at all?
-
Even idiots are allowed their opinions.
I like that. (changes signature)
-
I can't make the Newcastle game as I am in Hull that weekend. Can anyone tell me a good pub in the city centre to watch the match and the protocol for wearing club colours in such remote east coast place?
-
I have not worn a scarf down the Villa since I was 10 (37 years ago), if the players of our club cannot motivate themselves to beat Newcastle at home then I am sorry to say that we are doomed!
-
i can ave opinion to you no or are you a steward?
You can have one when you learn some spelling and punctuation.
-
I would bring my scarf but every time I've brought it Villa have lost the game. I brought it to the away game at Newcastle and Manchester City this year, and also Chelsea away last year, as well as the Carling cup final and the FA cup semi final, It's most recent appearance was our 1-0 home loss to Sunderland.
I could burn the cursed scarf before the game if that would help
-
Even idiots are allowed their opinions.

Marvellous.
-
Has anyone noticed that our better results this season tend to have come in front of smaller crowds. We haven't won any of the 11 games, home or away, where the crowd has been over 38,000.
So as the problem appears to stage fright the last we want to be doing is making ourselves more visible by waving scarves and flags.
I suggest we all wear plain sky blue shirts or jackets (maybe with a little number in the centre of the chest in a small oval shaped metallic shield) and sit quietly with rounded shoulders and hands on knees.
-

And react to a goal like they do when someone scores a point at Wimbledon.
-
Have we won a live sky tv game this year
-
i would like to add scarf or flag surely it doesn't matter wear colours shirts, hats whatever the most important thing is to back the team so wherever they look all they see is claret and blue as long as they don't look towards the doug ellis because there is no doubt in my mind the toon will either be in black and white or topless
-
Have we won a live sky tv game this year
Everton at home was the last one I can remember.

I'll be bringing my scarf,
and for the 1st time in 5 years i'm not wearing my "so called lucky" villa cyclin shorts!
-
Everyone should take a scarf to Everton aswell, lets get our end rocking and re-create the atmosphere at Blackburn in the semis last year.
'All bounce if you love Villa'

-
Its been absolutely freezing at Villa Park all season, the minute the sun comes out some bastard starts a 'bring a scarf campaign' ;-)
-
I'll wear my scarf while sitting on the couch watching the game on Villastreams ( while the picture keeps freezing every 20 seconds and I keep shouting at my laptop).
Sorry but thats the best I can do.
-
I would like to know the age group of the protesters, i have my suspicions.
-
Why are we all talking about the Newcastle game already . We are at everton first , still 200 tickets left,,,, come on get off your arses and get to Goodison. Have been to all away games this season,, we don't need encouraging at away games, sing for the VILLA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was just posted on the FB page, as I don't twitter, anyone know if this is true?

Have the other villa forums been notified? If it's going to work then it needs as many as possible involved.
-
So glad to have the prejudiced opinion that I formed about "ilsonvilla" on Saturday confirmed. The bloke's a complete w****r. Suggest you don't wander down to the Lower Holte with your wanky banners as you don't have many fans there!
-
Eight games and twenty four points to play for. Come on you Villa Boyyysss!! Battle, fight and climb that table.
A great idea. Well done to all concerned.
-
i can ave opinion to you no or are you a steward?
At this point I'm just suprised you were able to spell "Had Enough Houllier Out"
No negative vibes for Newcastle. Lets re-create the Shef. United game of a few years ago.
-
i can ave opinion to you no or are you a steward?
What does this say in English??
The whole idea is to generate a great atmosphere which may lift the gloom around the place. There's already too much negativity around, so trying to create a positive atmosphere is a good idea.
-
Forget your scarves, the key thing is that my mate Rob must remember to bring his lucky woolen hat
-
Ilson, we are attempting to transmit some positivity to the team, you dopey bastard. I will stick that Houllier out banner up your arse if you bring it to the Newcastle match.
-

I had a nice silky one around 77. Wonder whatever happened to that.
The scarf, not 1977. I guess that became 1978.
-
Legion, check your facebook inbox and also the FB page when you can.
-
MESSAGE FOR LEGION - Someone on "Bring a scarf/flag to Newcastle game Facebook site" is trying to get in touch with you RE: Villa want to promote this campaign
-
Thanks. I cannot access FB at work so I've only just logged on.
-
Personally, I'd tell them to back off. If the fans themselves can organise this then, imho, it will have more effect than being "sponsored" by the club. It's great that they want to help, but lets see if we can do this ourselves?
What they can offer, is publicity, getting local reporters to get in touch to push the idea.
-
I really don't know what to do with this now. I'm scheduled for a discussion at 11am on Saturday with a representative from VP. Any advice?
-
Yeah go. See what they have got to say. But it if becomes club driven then it may feel plastic and not have the emotional drive as when it is spontaeously driven by the fans themselves. hardcore emotion cannot come from the club whatever they propose. But, if they say they will unfurl our big flag then why not.
-
I would stress that the club should not consider any merchandising or free gifts in association with this. Not that I'm complaining (unlike some grouches on here, I love it when the club give away scarves and flags etc) but this has to be a fan-only thing IMO. I would even advise for them to keep their big flag away as it might detract from the sentiment. If they can advertise it, get their PR people onto it on Facebook, Twitter etc AND also inform the hosts of the special buses (I know Maggie on my bus is in touch with a lot of people who catch it on a social level) that it's 'scarf day' and to get the word out.
What I would stress to them is to play some stirring bloody tunes, a few Villa anthems, and don't get gimps like Red Pepper (or whatever he was called) to read out teams. Get the blood pumping and let the fans do the rest.
-
Don't walk under any black cats.....
-
Legion, let us know how you get on please
-
Legion tell the club to leave it to the fans.We can all do this.
-
Spoke at length to the marketing department this morning. It is most definitely being seen as a fan-generated initiative which the club would simply like to promote and support. Nothing is being done actively by them until Thursday/Friday. I believe that someone is being interviewed on Thursday by AVTV and a press release is being put together on Monday for publication at the weekend. They wish to link to the Facebook group as well as the threads on the fan sites that are behind the campaign as well as generate some positive local and national media interest.

That's great news. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ungrateful for any help the club might give and I'm glad they appreciate the way this has originated.
-
The Villa have decided to back the "The bells are ringing" as the club anthem. They've had some demo tapes made and have invited some of the old boys to the Holte Pub to sing it and film it on April 4th at 6pm. I don't know if it is a "come one, come all" invitation.

I've been told 5pm. Wouldn't want you to miss it.

Could potentially set up a workshop for people to make their own flags and pool together resources, we (brigada 1874) have access to somewhere that's big enough to do this and we have a little experience and can get our hands on the equipment needed. I personally think this idea is fantastic at a time when getting behind the team for the clubs sake is the most important thing! If we can create a sea of claret and blue and a caludron of noise we'll surely spur the players on.

I myself favour knocking the contemporary pop music on the head and getting the stadium DJ to play music from the glory years. Instant nostalgia, gets people going, lots of recognisable songs, lots of singing. a few flags and about twenty thousand scarf waving Villa fans would be a very intimidating addition.
-
They mentioned the planned recording of 'Bells are Ringing' being played aswell.
-
twenty thousand scarf waving Villa fans would be a very intimidating addition.
Apart from a few wasps in danger of being swatted, who on earth is going to be intimidated by fans waving scarves?
We are playing Newcastle, not St Trinians.
-
I sit on the front row of the Upper Tier of the Doug Ellis stand, right in the corner by the Holte End. I'm happy to drape a banner from there to help generate an atmosphere. (Positive banners that is)
-

But a cauldron of noise from the fans getting behind the players, instead of the quietness and booing etc of late will surely spur them on. If it doesn't then to a man they should be shot.
If the fans show that no matter how shit the team have been they are behind them, then that should be enough to lift them. If they don't up the game ith full support and backing then maybe they don't deserve to play for our great club.

Just logged into FB and saw this
Aston Villa FC - Official
Villa are delighted to back a second fan initiative – the idea sparked by supporter Andy Gould is for fans to bring a scarf/flag to the Newcastle game and help create a roaring atmosphere at the ground. Follow the link to see how you can help be the 12th man or visit their Facebook group page here: Calling all Aston Villa fans: Bring a scarf/flag to the Newcastle game

All looks OK to me?
-
Nothing wrong with it, was just pointing it out for anyone not on FB etc so as they could see how the club are supporting the idea.
-
Are we planning banners?
;-)
-
Yeah, mine says "ISLON.VILLA IS A TWAT (c)".
-
Is it a sell out yet? I'm broke but might book flights and try to make the game.
-
Not yet. Tickets still available.
-
Don't know whether this has already been posted or not.
The club are selling ALL scarves for £5 in both the city centre store and Villa Park.
-
It's meant to be 22 degrees on sunday which might put a lot of people off taking a scarf! I'll just carry mine to avoid sweating my tits off.
-

I also thought that it's very typically Villa for someone to arrange an 'Bring a scarf' day for the hottest day of the season!!!
Maybe we should have an 'Bring a beachball' day or maybe a 'Bring a makini' day?!
-
It's meant to be 22 degrees on sunday which might put a lot of people off taking a scarf! I'll just carry mine to avoid sweating my tits off.
I also thought that it's very typically Villa for someone to arrange an 'Bring a scarf' day for the hottest day of the season!!!

I think the swimwear day is planned for January.
Just a thought - as everyone's bringing scarves. Twirling them or holding them up is so unoriginal and boring and all been done before - try something different and all throw them on the pitch when we score. That would be quite a scene!
It'd be a good picture for the papers/TV... and make the club think twice about hijacking fans suggestions in future!
-
Bring beachballs and let's see if Bent can recreate his infamous in off the bechball goal from his Sunderland days in front of the Holte!
-
Legion, regarding your facebook post, where are the club planning on putting the massive flag?
Or would it be passed across the Lower North ala the Holte flag?

Is that the do you believe in the Villa flag?

I was thinking it'd look good draped over the edge of a stand as a permanent fixture, but it's probably far too big.
-
I shall bring my scarf. I'm really looking forward to the game. It'll be a lovely day for watching footie. Please don't spoil it by losing Villa!!
-
Sods law, i'm staying at someone else's and can't find a scarf! I'm not buying another just for tomorrow when I have about a dozen of them elsewhere.
-
PWS, don't forget they're only a fiver at the moment.
-
I've found my freebie.
Typical that it's hotter than a Pharaoh's flip flop tomorrow.
-
Result! Was just searching for one on the offchance there was one lurking here and for some reason my '96 Cup Final one is here. It's a sign I tell you!
I am now officially a happy bunny. Or should that be happy lion?

That's not very stirring.

Tie it round your wrist and pretend it's the 70s.

Ah! The flag. Sorry, Percy. I got my threads confused.
-
It might not be inspiring, mate, but it's bloody big enough to get noticed!

Only joking mate, the first one you posted came up on my pc as 'This image has been removed' or something like that. i'm all in favour of big flags, the more the merrier.

So, did the scarves wave?
-
So despite the 'bring a flag/scarf' they club didn't even get out the big flag for Holte End.
-
My arse was certainly waving an eggy banner all afternoon

To teach us a lesson for slagging off the club when they interfered with the anthem?
-
So, did the scarves wave?
Looked like a lot in the Lower Doug and some in Upper Holte
I got a sweaty neck with mine (1981-82 original) so had it on my wrist 70's style - wished I still had my silk one ;-)
-
Scarves were quite well done, weren't they? I'm gonna take one every week.

It sounded great on tv over here.

I thought the fans were great today.

Sky kept commenting how quiet Villa Park was today.

We can still get setanta and the atmosphere was great in the first half, it was quieter for 20 mins after half time and then it improved.
