I can't help thinking that accusing us of being fickle is wide of the mark, when the majority were either against, or at best, undecided, when Houllier was appointed in the first place.

Very true.

But that won't stop dullards parroting the phrase and trying to use it as some kind of insult.

It's an old adage, but if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem, and booing, getting on players backs, raising negative banners, chanting "you don't know what you're doing" and not getting behind the team is not any part of the solution to our problems.

How much of an impact did it really have on today's proceedings though?
It was put up and quickly taken down again before the players even emerged onto the pitch.

Was the banner more or less culpable than the shit tactics and shit team selection?
I'd tend to think it had about as much impact on the result as the 'Holte End -12th man' banner has had on our home form in recent seasons - that is, not much.

It's newsworthy in so far as it will do the rounds via electronic and print media and make it clear -if ever there was any doubt- that there is growing dissatisfaction with the bloke in the stands, but that's about it.

I've seen sides with pretty lousy home support (Man U/ Arsenal/ Tottenham) have decent seasons in years gone by. I've also seen clubs who are traditionally perceived as having more partisan support (Leeds/ Newcastle/ Pompey) struggle.

But don't let that stop any Villa fans from wanting to put the boot into their own.

I've just whipped the bed sheet off Mrs Dekuip and am about to get a tin of paint out the garage. I might go with the craze and make a banner to sum up my feelings about the over-priced panic purchase of the guy who meandered around up front in a No.39 shirt this afternoon. I hope he actually decides to contribute something to the team effort before the season's out, because he's been pretty shite so far. The worrying thing is he's an England international as well.
If we just wanted someone to hang around the opposition box and and do f**k all else we'd have got Kevin Phillips back for a fraction of the cost – at least he's sharp and alert when the ball eventually does come his way - and is still ten times a better finisher.
So if you see a banner with "I'M NOT A BENT FAN" painted in Dulux Pretty Pink at the Newcastle game, that'll be mine.

I wondered how long it would take to start turning this towards Bent - If you see a bloke about to launch a harpoon when you unveil that banner it will be me.

It may not have had an effect on the game but its likely to have a big impact on the remainder of the season.  There will be constant chanting about the manager now and won't do anything to spur the players on.

To put that up at the start of the game when everybody needs to get behind the team, well, he's a scum bastard.
As has been mentioned, the prick made sure he put his name on it.

Twattish publicity seeker of the worst kind.

People who put up banners like this are just attention seeking, they don't see beyond getting it on the tv. You can't use it as excuse for the result or performance but is sure as shit doesn't help. It particularly annoyed me that he used"we" as though he was somehow speaking for all of us.

My main problem with the banner was how poorly made it was, it looked the work of an escapee from the nut house, any more performances like yesterday and I might take his place.

Ironic considering the "We're Not Fickle..." banner has gone down in Villa folklore as being how all the fans felt about DOL.

Agree.
We don't need that shit before we even kick a ball.
Why didn't the fool make a banner encouraging the team?

Oh, what am I saying, he wouldn't have got on the TV with that.

1. Why on earth would you produce such a negative banner in a vital game beforea ball has even been kicked?

2. Why did he have to put his name on it?
