I actually think Hutton is potentially a good player and Jenas can be decent as well. However it doesn't change the fact we look hugely unambitious, and those running the club have made a complete and utter mess of it at the moment.

perfect summing up i feel.

So we let a midfield player go out on loan, having paid £6m for him only a few months ago, then chase the very definition of mediocrity in Jenas. Barmy.

Stephen Carr is a scumbag. He's worse than Diouf and Bellamy.

Having followed the action sporadically over the day I can't say I'm surprised. I find it hard to believe Jenas was first choice and the Joe Cole thing was typical Villa - cloak and dagger for sure but seemed to be far too late in the day (paradoxically being early in the day, but whatever). I'm of the feeling that if we haven't heard a whisper of any other midfielders by now then we won't get one in, full stop.

I don't mind Jenas. I was just hoping for a lot better. If he can avoid injury he can add something to our side. I was hoping Ireland would be forcing himself into that role though.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Fulham have made a £4m bid for Alan Hutton.

The Tottenham full-back was rumoured to be joining Aston Villa on transfer deadline day before Fulham’s late bid. The Scottish international has made 66 appearances for Spurs signing in a £9m deal from Rangers in January 2008. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Sunderland, where he made eleven league appearances.

Hutton, 26, previously spent eight years at Rangers, making 94 league appearances, and scoring two goals. He has been told he is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Jenas is a good signing, particularly as we are light in CM.

However, he is neither a DM or ACM and we still need one or the other joining today for us to have a relatively balanced squad this season.

A balanced squad with 5 players that can play at RB.  ???
Ok what will Jenas add to our midfield that we haven't got already?

The only player to have won soccer AM cross bar challenge ??

Hutton would be ok, he did alright for Tottenham at the start of last season. Is he better than Luke Young though? Not sure. Jenas..........he hasnt played since 2006 has he? If he could get back to his form of 2003 ish then fine but that was a long time ago. We still need a ball winner in midfield cos Mr Petrov is not that man.

If we had signed jeans on loan five years ago most fans would be deeply unimpressed, now we get the 5 years older ring-rusty version.

When Randy first came we made rapid progress, seems our decline could be just as swift. If the plan is to get us ready for a sale at least it makes some sort of sense, otherwise it's just incompetence.

Depends if we are talking denim jeans or primark?

Better than a pair of saggy used boxers i guess.
