I'm alright with Jenas, he's good player and he does have some attributes we lack a bit. He's tall, strong and energetic and is, from what I can recall, a 'box-to-box' midfielder. Not bad.

For what it's worth, I think he would enable us to play 4-4-2 much more comfortably, either alongside Delph or Petrov, as he has that energy to get up and down the pitch, defend and attack. In other words, a Milner replacement. Now in truth, I'd rather we got Milner to play the Milner role (!), but Jenas could do it for us.

I don't know that he's that much use in 4-2-3-1, though, unless he could play where Heskey currently is? But then, I'd rather see Bannan play there.

Anyway, decent signing.

Hutton for Young, I can go with, there's surely not much in it.

However, in the last few days, we've said we weren't moving anyone else on, only to loan out Makoun, sell Young and Hogg, and on top of the other outgoings this summer, to only bring Jenas in on top is both disappointing (because he's garbage) and unbelievable (in the sense that anyone thinks that that is anything like sufficient).

What the hell is going on at the club?

The club has become and complete and utter joke. I'm not normally hugely negative, but we are a shambles at the moment. I didn't want Randy to leave, but if his heart isn't in it he should be looking to move on.

I've missed the action recently, so I come back from hols to find we've sold Luke Young and fucked off Makoun(amatata).
Is Jenas a done deal? That smacks of desperation. He's good on his day, and certainly would be better than an out of his depth Makoun. But he's not the sort of midfielder who's gonna either keep a foothold in the middle, which we need, or the creative player who'll make things happen further forward, which given McLeishs reluctance to use Ireland and Bannan, we also need.

Urgh!

I thought the whole point of moving on Makoun was to bring in a more defensive midfielder, someone who could over time replace Petrov. A very strange move.

I've never really "got" Jenas, he's always struck me as an incredibly average player who's been lucky to forge a lucrative career in the Premier League.  Bearing in mind that I despise everything to do with Spurs though, I might have just had a bit of a downer on him and will give him the benefit of the doubt.  Seeing a player in a Villa shirt often gives you a different perspective on what they can do.

Any sign of a RB yet anyway?  This is like 2008 all over again.

It's Andy Burton and he's almost as bad as Jim White.

There was almost breaking news on Sky Sports earlier today when Jim White entered the TV stuido building. Oh dear!

Just checked and Jenas played 20 premier league games last season, 2 FA Cup Games and 6 European matches. Scoring no goals in the process.

We seem to be scratching around in the bargain basement at the moment, and face going into the season with a paper thin squad. Do the board think we are going to find better value from the market during the January transfer window? If we find ourselves in a relegation scrap again in four months time, then I would be really worried about our prospects.
