If McLeish is sufficiently impressed by Lichaj and Beye that he feels we can get by with them and it frees up money for a defensive midfielder then it's good.

If however, we are just planning on using the money to sign another average fullback to replace the average fullback we have let go then it is utterly pointless.

Average? Wash your mouth out. When Cuellar was playing at right-back, Luke Young was the white Roberto Carlos.

If Luke Young is in talks with QPR, I don't really understand. Surely we have a replacement lined up?

alan hutton most likely.

luke young was very useful for covering both full back positions but his best days are over. Gets dragged out of position a lot these days and his decision making isnt great. He used to be a super athlete which enabled to cover back but injuries have taken their toll. Might not be the worst move in the world and Im sure he will do really well for QPR. Still very good with the ball and he will go with the well wishes of all Villa supporters.

Right back for the weekend. Beye or Lichaj? Id generally for the younger player in this kind of scenario but the game is bound to be a very physical one and Beye might be better than Lichaj.

Shame to lose Young if he does go, but he is 32 and with the wages situation and only having 12 months left, prob best to do business and recoup some cash. I hope Hutton isn't the replacement would rather Lichaj be given a chance and spend the cash elsewhere  LB or another Winger.

Any rumours of the Fee ??

I think Carlos will stay now and once he's fit he'll play a fair bit at RB once again.

We saw on saturday how beneficial it would've been to have Carlos come off the bench and slot in at RB rather than having to put Warnock there.

Disappointed to be losing him at this stage of the season, still a good rb imo who also does very well at LB when asked but clearly a return to London is attractive for him.

Well if they can't get the club right, I'm less inclined to believe their sources.

Its not just the BBC. The other night SSN referred to him as Birmingham manager Alex McLeish.

(But as it was said by a fit bint, I was happy to let it go).

I feel that Luke Young was always going to go, he's wanted to be closer to his london based family since his brother died.

Fair play to him.

Onuha would be my first choice to get in, he's out of favour at Man City.

Why has the thread been locked - surely the manager confirming he is talks makes it worth its own thread ??

Anyway - I like Luke and if he does leave then I hope we have a replacement sorted

Me too think it would be pointless just to replace him with another right back. It's a shame he's going, we always look more organised at the back when he plays.

I think i must be one of the few people on here who dose'nt think Beye is that terrible. I've seen worse and i've seen a whole lot better. Whenever i see him, i always think he'd make a better centre half than right back, whether it's because he's tall, i don't know. In any case, if Young is off, then we might be seeing a lot more of Habib, unless he throws Lichaj in.

We're not in Europe and we've got three right backs on 40k+ a week. Cuellar, Lichaj and Beye will be enough for this season. I'd rather the money from Luke go towards a midfield player.

Warnock, Clark, Delph and Baker is enough at left back.

Not ideal but it'll be fine.
