As good a shot stopper as Given is, he is getting older and in decline (one of the main reasons people wanted rid of Brad - who is also a good shotstopper) and has a poor recent injury record. One awkward dive on his shoulder and we are fucked and relying upon Guzan and Marshall. I know this is a risk with any goalkeeper we could sign but with his injury record it is more of one.

It's better to sign a keeper with a few more years in him like Foster or Robinson without such injury problems.

I think we were right to let Friedel go.

He wasnt worth a further two years and whilst his stop stopping is still fine his command of the back four and his 6 yard box is shit

big time, friedel was a decent shot stopper but not great in about every other aspect of his game. Thought he was pretty poor last season and Spurs are mental if he is first choice for them next season. Given isnt all that dominant in the air either but he is far more agile than Brad and looked in great form for Ireland away to Macedonia at the end of the season. He did hurt his groin though and had to take all his kicks with his left foot. So hope he is over his injury problems. Given is really good with the ball at his feet which will make a change from Friedel too. Given and Dunne have played together for years aswell which is a good start.

Agreed, their arrogance is getting as bad as Manure/L'pool/Chelski...unlikely, I know, but would love to see them struggle this year, esp if Tevez ain't playing ball...

eh? He's left the club.

The first thing I noticed is Richard Dunne's looking quite slim.

K Mac?
Thought Dunny looked in good shape too. Diet Guinness?
Downing doing a lot of smiling.
Why?

Villa have also moved ahead of Tottenham in the pursuit of West Ham's Scott Parker, because Spurs must sell before they buy.

Daily Mirror report today.

So Villa are not the only selling club then......

don't tell anyone, but I heard Arsenal are selling their best players too in order to invest in new ones, as did Liverpool, Sunderland and Newcastle in selling their top strikers. But it's only Villa, don't you know.

I'd be amazed if flapper Friedal was 1st choice at spurs and look forward to seeing their defensive chaos on corners.

Given is a class keeper and I'm sure villa will have plenty medical proof that his shoulder has healed, as regards Gary mac - he left the club last month.

Nice to see ireland smiling and enjoying training today- could be a huge player for us.

I thought that, too. Ireland and Warnock involved too. But who's the guy taking the training, initials AL on his top?

Apparently Wigan are off on tour on Monday so you would hope if we do move for Nzogbia it will be this weekend

Absolutely. Let's hope our admin staff are back in today so we can make some progress on these transfers.
Surely we don't wait for "admin" people to return from holiday before we do any business!
I can only assume that RL, PF and AM have been busy behind the scenes, along with necessary others.
Or am I spectacularly naive?

Yeah, surely this is nonesence. Most other offices you cann't have more than one person out on holiday in the same position at the same time. I wouldn't of thought the whole admin department have all gone off on holiday together al la the MasterCard school's out for summer advert.
