Moderic "is" a "world class" player and Levy has told him he is not leaving. Are you watching RL. Thats how it is done .......
Roman: "£25 mio for Modric."
Daniel: "He's world class.  And he's not leaving."
Roman: "£35 mio.  No negotiation."
Daniel: "You got yourself a Croat."

Today's press reporting mcleish in dispute with Lerner and Faulkner as they haven't sorted out his staff and that he is working on deals but has been told he has to sell players to raise cash to buy- also very unhappy Ashley young money was spent in advance on bent and only enough cash in pot for a keeper- even suggestions he may be close to walking out, though I can't see that .

Faulkner been away 2 weeks and everything put on hold- what a farce !

Alex McLeish is running into major teething problems at Aston Villa - just 20 days into the manager’s job.

McLeish has already been shocked to find out he needs to sell to buy after making his extraordinary and controversial move across the Second City from relegated arch-rivals Birmingham.

And now the Scot is being rocked by problems as he seeks to appoint the backroom staff he wants by bringing some of his old ‘team’ across from St Andrew's.

Villa's owner, Randy Lerner, is reluctant to pay the compensation package demanded for the men McLeish wants, so the new boss will greet his players for pre-season training today with only skeleton support.

McLeish has laughed off suggestions he could even walk out if the problems are not resolved quickly, but the hold-up means he's making a false start in his new job.

So far, McLeish is working with the existing managerial staff, featuring Kevin MacDonald and Gordon Cowans.

He wants Lerner and Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner - who is only just back from honeymoon - to sort out a deal with Birmingham City for Peter Grant and possibly Andy Watson plus medical and sports science staff to cross the divide.

McLeish is in the middle of a complicated legal web at the moment.

The manager is in conflict with his former employers about the way he left - with action and counter-action being discussed..

Strong man McLeish is fiercely supportive towards his staff and if he is unable to work without them it would be a blow on several levels.

The wrangle over compensation is the latest twist in the bitter fight between Villa and Blues, with much of the energy of both clubs spent on that front this summer.

McLeish has yet to make any signings as he waits for Stewart Downing’s sale to Liverpool to go through. He is working on many targets but those seem to depend on more money coming in.

Ashley Young’s departure to Manchester United has apparently been swallowed up by the cost of the record move for Darren Bent in the January window.

Great. No money and the manager can't get players or even his staff in. If ever a season had relegation written all over it, its this one.

I bet if you looked at how many goals modric played a crucial role in it would be a ton. There's a reason why practically every hack and manager thought he was player of the year last season.

Depressing mcleish stories. It's only in the mirror of course, but my ability to laugh off what initially appears unfounded press speculation was somewhat hurt a few weeks back!

Modric makes Henderson look cheap. 3 goals and 5 assists for an attacking mid. Nit worth 12 let alone 30 imo
You haven't done your homework. Modric has 6 PL assists in two seasons. That's the same as Alberto "flop" Aquilani and he was on loan for one of them.

@OptaJoe
Opta Sports
82 – Only four players created more goalscoring chances in the 2010/11 PL season than Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson (82). Target.

@OptaJoe
Opta Sports
4 – The four to create more scoring chances than Henderson were Malouda (117), K Davies (91), Brunt (86) and Downing (85). Unselfish.

Redman, if you want to quote Henderson stats that is fine, but I was talking about Modric.

As for your stats on Henderson, would you like to define goalscoring opportunity? I can sure as hell warn you now, Downing did not create over 2 clear cut chances per game last season!

Nearly every season there is a team that have the stench of relegation hanging over them from day one due to the way they are being run - Portsmouth, West Ham etc. - I also can't help but feel that this is us at the moment.

The Mcleish story is a load of bull. Lovely use of no direct quotes from the man himself.
Matt kendrick is reporting this am on twitter that Mcleish has told Downing he is NOT FOR SALE and will have another meeting with him tomorrow. Also i believe we are close (today or 2mo) to naming his backroom team!!
I expect 3 signings next week. (no itk, just gut feeling)

PS, i put on hear just after the season ended that Foster was set to join. I had an update on this yesterday, this was one of signings that Gary Mac had lined up and is one of the players who had been 'lined up'. As soon as GH was not coming back this obviously all stalled. Mcliesh is VERY interested in him though, however we wil not meet the scums 11million asking price!

Why do people believe whats in the papers ffs. When AM met RL about taking the Villa job, one of the things discussed would surely have been his backroom staff, and the way forward from there.
Some of these things in the press are laughable, and so is the reaction of fans who read papers like the mirror/star etc, then take as gospel whats in there!!!!!
