I think it was just over a week ago that the Mirror were reporting us as trying to get Jimmy Milner back and it was widely discounted on here as being rubbish.  Now the same paper prints a story about us being broke and it's taken as gospel by some.  So if this bastion of journalistic integrity can change their heavily researched view of us so wildly in so short a space of time, do their stories hold any merit at all?

In fairness, it's not just the Mirror running stories about us being broke, is it?

Were not broke its just the chairman has had enough of investing. (So it seems anyway) if that is the case then he needs to just sell us

But after all the stuff that's been coming out this week about the media , can we really believe anything they put in their rags.

If they can't get it by hacking etc they'll just make it up anyway....bugger the truth..the real answer is in the thread title

Blimey, old Marlon has come down a bit

Ex-Blackpool striker Marlon Harewood looks set to reject interest from Millwall and Reading - to sign for Chinese second division club Ping Pong Ping Pong Cashiernumber4 please.

It's the rose tinted glasses view of players who came through the ranks, I'm sorry you cannot put 'heart' above talent, effectivness etc Downing was quality last season...oh but he can't tackle. Marc A has potential to be great but at this point in time he's not near Downing.

in over 1500 minutes less last season, albrighton had 2 less goals but 3 more assists than downing...
Thanks for that, makes me feel even better for when SD goes and we have 20million more in the kitty

indeed... i personally, wont be sad to see dowing leave... i have never rated him, and half a season worth of reasonably decent form last year (not as much as should be expected for a 12 mil signing i might add), where he stood out as the apparent better of a shite, unmotivated, unconfident group, isnt going to change my view anymore than half a season worth of poor form from someone wont convince me they are shite...

bring in n'zobgia for 10 mil, and try a cheeky 10 mil flutter on shaqiri (or someone young who shows a LOT of potential), and our wings are sorted now and for a few years... (well, until insomnia decides he is too good for us, like he has at every club he has been at... but at least we will know what we are getting with him, attitude wise)...

i am delighted that adam is going to the bin dippers... he ranks right up there along with bale as the medias most over rated... 6 months worth of good form, followed by periods of crap form as people "found him out" as the slow, crap tackling and unfit player who sprays lots of passes about while only 65% of them actually come off... the positives were highlighted at blackpool... the opposite would happen at a club like the villa... (no doubt the media will still love him at the bin dippers though)... a bullett dodged there from us... in my humble opinion...

Agree with the faulkner bit, I mean when do you see a new manager giving a press conference on his own?

I think Dave said McLeish requested that he do it alone.

what about the facts and figures?

6 goals and 11 assists from marc albrighton in just over 2000 mins of football, and 8 goals and 8 assists from downing in just over 3500 mins of football...

he wasnt far off youngs goals and assist tally either, in over 1500 mins less of football, and that was with young taking all the set pieces, including penalties...

Check last years goals and assists stats and then factor in the extra games one played compared to the other.  The results might surprise you.

Sorry, but I don't class the associated press picking up on each others bullshit and re-writing it with a few words changed as concrete proof.

Broke or not hasn't stopped Scottish press linking Villa with Gary Hooper in exchange for Petrov

And I'd rate Albrighton far higher than Downing and thats not just because Downing is angling for a move I just don't and have never seen the fuss with Downing he is a good player but that is about it.

Albrighton isnt too far behind Downing and will ultimately be a much better player.
