Meanwhile, Chelsea's England Under-21 international Daniel Sturridge could be set for a season-long loan to Newcastle, who are short of firepower following the sales of Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan.

If he's available we should be in for him - if only on loan he'd be a great addition.

No. No more loans. I hate us loaning kids from other teams only to improve them and send them back. Makes us seem small time to me. I'd only accept it if we are in desperate need i.e Walker for RB. We have a whole summer we shoulldnt be loaning of anyone. Besides we have our own kids if we're gonna give youngsters a chance. Give Delfouneso and Weimann a run and see how they fair. I can understand it for teams like Bolton who dont have kids coming through an academy but not us. Not us!

Do you think so? I thought he looked anything but the part for the under 21s - he might still turn out to be a good player but I wouldn't say he was 'class' yet

Plenty really well for Bolton though.

Someone we probably were going to sign from Man. City until Chelsea came calling so I'd say he would consider it more than Newcastle if we were interested.

People wanting Nolan are mental.

He's coming up to 30, West Ham have somehow given him a 5 year deal and he's on 50k a week there.

Isn't that the sort of wage splurge we're trying to get away from?

you're right if they are paying him 50k a week. Can't see it somehow with their finances

I agree!  He isn't that good imo.  If people are going on about his goal scoring ability from midfield, then they should say the same about Craig Gardner!

Our prority quite simply has to be keepers and full backs.

Possibly a new winger and midfielder?

How can full back be a priority over wingers, we have L Young, Warnock, Beye, Lichaj and Baker, plus Cuellar and Clark in emergencies.  Wide midfield we have Albrighton and maybe Downing, that's it.

Why does everyone get a fresh start? Houllier should have had words with McLeish and told him the situation already. We dont need another month or 2 of deciding who's good and who aint. IMO Eck doesnt need to speak to anyone just watch games from last season and speak to the backroom staff and get rid, now. Its time to bleed out the MON signings and bring his own players in if only to freshen up the squad/place. Many other teams have already started getting players in. We need to act quick so we can get these players in for pre-season.

Look at the respective quality of those fullbacks compared to the wingers and how many games they played last season and you'll have your answer.

I'd imagine it has an impact on their sale value.

Unwanted Warnock: £2m
Aston Villa left back Warnock: £4m

Saying that, I'm sure AM is fully up to speed on what went on last season from Sid.

Realistically AM will come in knowing the score regarding Warnock et al. Saying everybody has a chance is just ip service and probably bluster in order to sell them.

If you go shouting about how useless and surplus a player is you would have a hard time finding a buyer.

Who's going to relieve us of Dunne (50k a week), Heskey (60k) and Beye (40k) though?  I think we must replace the outgoing first teamers, Friedel, NRC, Walker and A Young, but otherwise only replace incomers with outgoers.  If we can shift Dunne, Heskey, Beye, Warnock and Ireland for good money then great, but we can't keep them and buy 4/5 other new guys or we will have too large a squad again.

Completely agree.

Also, Horatio will want to bring his own players in as all managers do.  So although they won't generate much in the way of funds, the space getting rid makes on the wagebill will be needed.
