Meanwhile, Chelsea's England Under-21 international Daniel Sturridge could be set for a season-long loan to Newcastle, who are short of firepower following the sales of Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan.

If he's available we should be in for him - if only on loan he'd be a great addition.

No. No more loans. I hate us loaning kids from other teams only to improve them and send them back. Makes us seem small time to me. I'd only accept it if we are in desperate need i.e Walker for RB. We have a whole summer we shoulldnt be loaning of anyone. Besides we have our own kids if we're gonna give youngsters a chance. Give Delfouneso and Weimann a run and see how they fair. I can understand it for teams like Bolton who dont have kids coming through an academy but not us. Not us!

All fine and noble in theory but that's where we are now in the pecking order - feeding on the scraps from the 'Top Four' table.

Who's going to relieve us of Dunne (50k a week), Heskey (60k) and Beye (40k) though?

We'll have to pay them a bundle to settle the wages drop they'll face, but that's should be offset by the incoming fees and work out cheaper than them seeing out their contracts.

I reckon Heskey will find a buyer and Dunne will stay but I haven't a clue about Beye.

I think Beye will either sit it out for the remainder of his contract or we'll have to pay him to leave should somebody show an interest.

Yeah but why is everyone suddenly rating Sturridge? Because a year ago he was nothing. Then suddenly Bolton come in for him and give him a run in the team. Hence the form, goals & pludits. A year ago everyone was raving about Delfouneso for the England under 21's. So how about give him a chance until January and if he doesnt make it hey, at least we tried. Its not as if, at this point we are realistically going to break the top 4 so there's only so far high or low we can go. I guess this is how Everton operate and why they seem to consistantly produce youngsters.

A year ago Sturridge was already good playing a bit part role for Man City which is why Chelsea purchased him. He certainly has quality and potential. What nobody can answer at this point because there isn't a significant body of work is can he do it over a full season? If he has the correct attitude and desire he could be a very good consistent player indeed at PL level.

8 goals from 12 appearances in an average Bolton side suggests he's got something.

Yeah but why is everyone suddenly rating Sturridge?

To be fair, he looked decent for Chelsea on the rare occasions he got a chance. But he looked absolutely shit hot for Bolton and had loads more to his game than I originally thought.

If there's a chance of us getting him, we should go for it. But generally, I agree on your point about our own youngsters - I'd be happy for us to go into the season with Bent, Gabby, Delfouneso and Weimann as our four strikers. Only if someone special becomes gettable should be going for a striker IMO.

I also think we should be scouring Europe to get in any really good 17-18 year olds that we can by selling our facilities and chances of first team progression. Buying young and reletively cheap and selling high should be our model now.

In a team that rapidly slipped down the table. He did well. I'd take him.

Sorry but a few of us have been lauding Sturridge for years. And I still do. He's a class act and we should try and get him if at all possible.

However, he does look disturbingly like the what what in my butt bloke.

Sturridge is a good player, but not worth the £70k a week he's on at Chelsea.
