Good points John.

Two box to box types behind Adam is the way to go as I see it. Makoun and Delph being those players and maybe bring in a specialist destroyer to cover all angles. Scott Parker perhaps or Axel Witsel.

Seb Larsson is having a medical at Sunderland. I thought he'd be a useful squad player, can play midfield or full back if required.

Adam, Delph & Reo Coker could work. NRC & Delph doing all the leg work, leaving Adam with the craft to create.

I believe the agreed fee is something near 3.4m

Pretty cheap because (if Goal.com is to be believed) because no-one else wants him. Buying a central midfielder for 3.5 million then thinking he is going to be good is nonsense

Thats pretty cheap for an international captain tbf. If he can adapt to the Prem after a pre-season under his belt he could be a real bargain buy for us. Didnt look too great last season though. Looked like he dwelled too much on the ball and kept getting caught out too often. Problem is with Bradley, Makoun, Delph and Petrov we are still lacking something in midfield.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's England Under-21 international Daniel Sturridge could be set for a season-long loan to Newcastle, who are short of firepower following the sales of Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan.
Full story: Caughtoffside.com

If he's available we should be in for him - if only on loan he'd be a great addition.

Excellent idea this lad is class he looked the part in the under 21s got that balance and close control and shown in the Bolton side that he has an eye for goal if Liverpool paid £20m for henderson then this kid is worth twice that

Do you think so? I thought he looked anything but the part for the under 21s - he might still turn out to be a good player but I wouldn't say he was 'class' yet

And Albrighton couldn't get a game for that side, yet we all know how good he is and expect him to get better.

Sturridge is a very good player now with the capacity to get better, so personally I'd be very happy with him here.

I've been very impressed with Daniel Sturridge, also Danny Welbeck. At this stage they are ahead of Delfouneso. I'd like to see Nathan have as many games as these two have had.

STEPHEN Ireland, Stephen Warnock and Habib Beye will be among the out-of-favour players given a chance to resurrect their Villa careers by Alex McLeish.

Ireland, Warnock and Beye seemed to have played their last games for the claret and blues after being sidelined by Gerard Houllier.

But McLeish is ready to offer the troublesome trio a fresh start as part of his promise to wipe the slate clean for all of the players currently on Villa’s books.

Ireland has not played for Villa since starting in the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool last December after the former boss questioned his attitude.

Newcastle were interested in a permanent move for the 24-year-old midfielder despite him playing just 49 minutes’ football in an injury-plagued loan spell.

But having valued Ireland as an £8 million makeweight in the deal which took James Milner to Manchester City, Villa are keen to give him another opportunity to prove himself, especially as he has three years left on his current contract.

Warnock and Beye, meanwhile, were banished to train with the reserves for the second half of last season after disagreements with Houllier.

Villa’s former manager felt the full-back duo were not showing enough commitment to the cause and failed to select either for a single first-team squad from January onwards. Warnock’s last appearance came when the left-back started the 4-0 defeat at Manchester City just after Christmas.

He looked like he had Ashley Young syndrome to me. You can’t doubt his talent and he would thrive behind Bent.

Beye? No. Get rid.
Warnock? undecided. Good start when he came in, decent player. Could be good enough. Attitude problem?
Ireland? as a Footballer: Yes. As a Person: No. Sell. Who will want to take him on, and cover his £60,000+ a week wages?

Warncock - i'd sell him and we'd probably get better on less wages and he'll still fetch a bit.
Ireland  - probably have to keep him as i can't see anyone being interested unless we give him away
Beye - Larf!

So, we've not started pre-season training yet, McLeish hasn't talked to any of these players, as far as we know, yet some journo thinks they have an inside track on what he's thinking?

In that case, and based on the same level of inside knowledge, I understand it that Big Eck wants to use Bent in goal, try a 0-10 formation and give the General a shot at rightback.

You heard it here first!
