We need to recal when Houlier was at Liverpool in his first full season there he cleared out the deadwood and bought in his own men. If this is anything to go by he will want to make his mark particularly has he will know that if he is staying then the men he puts out on the park are his own men then he can stake his health on his own men giving him there best shot so to speak. Let s offload the buggers who are just prepared to take the club for a ride and sit in the reserves picking up their 25 to 30 k per week. Houlier will know he will need players who can die for the cause.

This is exactly what my mates who are liverpools fans have said earlier in the season and I do believe them.  I stil have faith in him but i think his health may no longer allow him to continue at villa park.

If were to go with the 4-3-3 of the past two games for next season, and I hope we do, then we'll need a creative midfielder to play alongside any two of Delph, NRC, Makoun or Petrov, we already have the ideal player on our books in Steven Ireland, the obvious problem is he's a cock and his hearts clearly not in it, however if we could somehow get him motivated then we have an invaluable assett on our hands, his best form for City was always in a midfield 3 were he linked up fantastically with the 2 wingers and lone forward, I think Bent would benefit from his through balls, we just need to somehow sort his head out.
A possible scenario if Mark Hughes comes in as manager. Otherwise, Ireland needs to disappear right bck up his own a*s*hole and stay there.

I've got a feeling if GH goes, then Makoun will go back to France

I think we will sign 6. Maybe we should have a predictions thread for it? I can't see how we will have a competitive squad without getting in about 6.

Anyhow - I think Warnock, Ireland, Friedel, Young, Heskey, Guzan will leave, and Walker will go back to Spurs.

I think Luke Young has done more than enough to justify being first choice left back next season IMO. Solid, clearly plays for the cause and is a dependable player, and for me always looks better on the left! I get the impression Dunne and Collins have turned the corner. As such, squad holes will be:

2 x GK

1x RB

1x CM (Ireland replacement)

2x Forward player in the 4-3-3

I would be delighted with Foster, Westwood, Walker long term, Adam, N'Zogbia and then an exciting one from abroad like Gervinho.

Any others will either be younger players or freebies.

We could do with the full Houllier deck clearing, with Dunne, Petrov etc also going, but I think more will stay than we think.

I agree with all of that. Hopefully by the end of the season Clark has established himself as a CB.

One to cross off the list:

1513BST: Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila has signed a new deal with the French first division side, extending his current deal by a year to 2015. M'Vila who was attracting interest from several Premier League sides, did not rule out a move in the future, saying: "I still have some progress to make, whether that's here or elsewhere."

Me too. However, I expect one or two who might otherwise have left will stay which could make up for that. It'll be tough for him trying to impress a new gaffer without having established himself in the team or league.

Out of the current first team squad list (which includes Carew) I'm going to say 14 out (not including Walker & Bradley) and 9 in.

Anyone think Owen Hargreaves is worth a gamble. The last crock we had from ManU didn't do too badly.

If you're offering a spread bet, I'll go under that!

I reckon 6 in tops. 1 keeper, one right back, one left back, one midfielder, one fwd. And then either a centre back or another attacking player.

My ideal realistic package would include Walker, Enrique, Adam, N'Zogbia plus a good keeper prepared to compete with Friedel and Sturridge, though I think that's getting greedy. I'm not sure you could get Downing, Bent, N'Zogbia and Sturridge in the same side.

He probably is for someone, but not us I think - it's not a risk we need to take. A really good player when fit, mind.

I just hope the players he brings in to replace the deadwood are better than Traore, Westerveld, Biscan, Diouf, Diao and Cisse. And cheaper.

The Evening Standard think Rob Green is due to open Villa talks re a £4m move. I'd take him as a reserve, but £4m is a lot to spend on a reserve. Too many mistakes for me.

Not for me. God didn't have to run, Hargreaves might be expected to cover a bit of ground.
