I remember listening to Paul Frank's Radio WM show on the day of Man Utd's last European Cup final when he interviewed Birmingham's outgoing Lord Mayor (can't remember his name but he was an Irish chap). After chatting about his job, Franks mentioned that he heard the Lord Mayor was the chairman of the official Man Utd's midlands supporters club and he questioned him on why so many people in Birmingham supported Man Utd over a local club. He replied that most of the Brummie Reds he knew were actually fans of Birmingham City as well as Man Utd.

I didn't need proof that Brummie Reds were actually Blue Noses in disguise because I've always known it, but it was certainly nice hearing it officially confirmed.

Yep sons of lapsed noses who aren't allowed to support us, ditto black country sons whose Dad support Albion or  Wolves. I know of examples of season ticket holding wolves fans who have suffered this way.

Brummie Reds and 'Noses have an affinity due to the disparity between the teams. They will never be rivals so can comfortably rub shoulders, and of course feed each others paranoia and hatred of us.

i personally, put it down to an inferiority / insecurity complex... they have to latch onto a winner, because they themselves, feel like sad pathetic little losers...

That’s about the size of it, I think that they are basically very insecure people who have latched onto them to feel more successful in their own lives.  I for one can never grasp the concept or understand the mindset of supporting a team where they are not from/live or don’t have any links with, surely they must feel that Man U/Chelsea/Liverpool etc doesn’t really belong to them and they are cheating themselves?  And do they ever question why other fans do support Villa/Blues/Accrington Stanley etc!

I know one lad who I met back when I was 10, when he joined our school. Didn't like Football. By the October he supported United. Reason? His Granddad used to live in Manchester. When? About 20 years before he was born.

If you wind him up enough these days, he uses the 'United were 9th in the league when I started supporting them' line.

Another lad I know, has converted the other way (a rare one), and is now a Villa fan, since about 2007/8. Actually used to go to the odd United game, then by his own admission, got fed up. Bought a ST in the Holte Upper, bought a Villa shirt, took an interest. Quite a strange one...

The other thing that irritates me is that they not just support a team from either Liverppol or Manchester but they go anti brum on all other issues. The 2nd city debate/humour of the scouser all 'better than crappy Brum' drives me mad. Go and chuffin live there then !
