Went into HMV in the city centre the other day and had a browse through the Football DVDs.

Saw an Aston Villa one there - 100 Greatest Goals.

Next to it was the Blues one - 100 Greatest Corners won.

Next to that was the ManUre one - 100 Greatest Referee Decisions.

Just tell them that, no matter what they win, the League, the FA cup or the big cup, it will never mean the same to them as it would mean to us.  That gets them every time.

The thing Brummiereds will never have, is the ability to engage in the same banter you get with Blues and Albion fans.  Whilst it still hurts to lose to Man U or the Liverpool, I can't take them seriously when they try to dish out the next-day gloats.

Beat the Blues, and you go at the Bluenoses with relish, and vice versa - it does actually mean something. there's build-up, tension, and then intense workplace gloating or misery the next day.  With the reds - so what?

Also, why is this a phenomenon with these two teams - why don't Arsenal seem to attract the same amount of non-London followers?

Brummie reds = Closet Blues fans.

Usually find it's the gloryhunters who give them the twat following as it's the complete opposite when I work around Manchester and get speaking to some of them about football.

My oldest brother started out as a Man Utd fan, because my cousin was. Then he became a bluenose after fraternising with a bunch of knuckledraggers. If he suddenly started hanging out with The Wurzels I expect he'd be into tractors and cider.  Aside from him, and his son, our family is all Villa, apart from another cousin, who appears to have had his brain removed at birth. He's a knuckledragger too. A really bad one.

I'll go along with the concensus that most Brummie Reds are noses without the spine to put up with the constant, unremitting, perpetual misery of following that lot.

I used to really tear into a couple of Brummie reds at work (one Manc, one 'The Mighty Reds YNWA'). I was warned I may get in trouble for bullying, so had to calm it down a bit.

I cant be arsed to give them the satisfaction of expending energy taking the piss, as soon as I know I am talking to a glory hunter I just roll my eyes and break off conversation to speak about anything other that football. Its a real struggle to think them worthy of speaking about football with as an equal.

I remember listening to Paul Frank's Radio WM show on the day of Man Utd's last European Cup final when he interviewed Birmingham's outgoing Lord Mayor (can't remember his name but he was an Irish chap). After chatting about his job, Franks mentioned that he heard the Lord Mayor was the chairman of the official Man Utd's midlands supporters club and he questioned him on why so many people in Birmingham supported Man Utd over a local club. He replied that most of the Brummie Reds he knew were actually fans of Birmingham City as well as Man Utd.

I didn't need proof that Brummie Reds were actually Blue Noses in disguise because I've always known it, but it was certainly nice hearing it officially confirmed.
This is very true.Overheard a conversation with 2 Bluenoses in a lift so had the one guy down as a Bluenose.A few weeks later we were out and I forgot who he supported so I asked him and he said Man Utd-cock!

if i meet someone for the first time, and they say they support Man Utd or Liverpool,
there stock drops in my eyes straight away,
i know its a bit predudiced and sometimes they still turn out to be good sorts,
but if they say Middlesborough, Bristol City, Blackpool, Fulham, Northampton etc, i instantly think a bit more of them for no apparent reason.

i know its daft, but its just the way it is

If I was interviewing somebody for a job in the midlands and having done all the bit about the job etc thinking they might be worth employing and then noticing that one of his/her interests was football I would inevitably ask the question which team.

If they said ManU I would disregard everything they had said earlier about their personality and thinking.  I would then give them the benefit of another 5 minutes to tell me why.  If that didn't stack up as it should ...such as, I'm from Manchester, my Dad's from Manchester and I've been to loads of games with him etc .. if any other excuse came out I would only be left with the conclusion, there is an underlying insecurity with this person and would say "thank you for your time, we'll be in touch".

I don't think its daft at all.  When grown men from areas other than MCR and Lpool claim to "support" these clubs but never attend you've got to question their personal qualities.

Football is much more than a game to me - its about community and local pride.  Going to the game with your mates and supporting them through thick and thin.  The gloryhunters will never understand that.

I think we should all kick a Brummiered in the back this weekend.
Just to show we wont stand for these sort of left handed rank outsiders.

I have man living next door to me who 'supports' Man United. Brummie accent and everything.

Stopped laughing when I took money off him a couple years ago when we had a bet on the Champions League final.

He's alright, nice chap and isn't one of those glory hunters who feels the need to wear a Man United jersey or cap all the time.

Indeed, the reasons they give are pathetic, 'my grandad bought me a kit when I was 7', well my grandad bought me a pirates outfit but I dont go round shouting 'arrrrrr' nowadays, cause everyone would think I was a ******, same as if I were a Utd fan.

A real lack of backbone.
