Oh dear.  It seems my post was largely misunderstood, but never mind.  'Honour and fragility' was said tongue-in-cheek, and I wasn't referring to the men only on this forum.

Clogger:  Thank you for the lecture on equality.  Where would we be without enlightened women like you?  I also 'see the issue', I just choose to react in my own 'antiquated' way.

I think they will be going now, it even looks like their employers want them out.
Both have had a very long time at Sky, earned great money doing what we'd all like to do, and maybe it will be good to freshen up the programmes.
Ken Wolstenholms(sp) they aren't!

I hope they go but i'd be surprised if they sack them, there is a story on the sun's website this morning of Keys and Gray on a monday night football show from 1998, they got the giggles after watching some women's football and had to cut the show short. It is time for a change as they are very predictable so move them on!

It's hard conveying "tongue-in-cheek" without using emoticons, and I'm glad you didn't use them!

I think we're mostly all on the same side, coming from different directions.

I've read your post again and am still not sure what there was to misunderstand  - your post expressed a view many hold, both male and female. A view I don't fully agree with. If you were being tongue in cheek then it did not come through the internet, which is often the case when things are written rather than spoken.

My post quite clearly was my opinion. Not a lecture to you. Nor was I suggesting you did not see the issue, rather referring to people who are saying "it was just a bit of banter".If you choose to interpret it as such then so be it. I don't think there was any need for sarcasm though. I am happy to debate and agree to disagree without resorting to that.

I don't think fundamentally most people disagree about the principle.

How I would love Alan Green to cock up big time on air.

He does every Saturday night it's just that people accept his rants as normal!

Chances are most players would think twice about giving a verbal spray to a female lino for a contentious decision too. Positive discrimination? Maybe.

From personal experience I can confirm that is not the case at all. Most players are more likely to give you a spray because you are female and sometimes you have no choice but to flash the yellow or red as some players' IQ's don't justify you giving them credit for intelligence and trying a word on the run warning.

Maybe.

Do you run the line at parks football or the professional game?  Parks players always believe they can get away with murder (though the fines obviously sting a bit more). They don't have the full glare of the TV and written media to contend with.

Would an odious little individual like Ashley Cole want to dent his reputation further by being seen to swear and curse at a female lineswoman/ assistant? He might not be bothered, but there's a chance he'd be more tempted to hold his tongue, for fear of the publicity it would generate.

'He's only winding his neck in because it's a female lineswoman, if it was a bloke he wouldn't care' would be the positive discrimination at play there. But again, if it ends with the result of him and others being less twattish, it could only be a good thing surely.

She plays for the female equivalent of Small Heath Alliance.

From my experience players will have a go at any ref they where they think can get away with it, regardless of gender. I gave an example earlier of a game I played in where the lad started his abuse for a bad decision, realised it was a female ref and then tailored it appropriately be using "bitch", she gave him a few choice words back and the game carried on. Not big or clever but a heat of the moment reaction and recognised as such by the ref and everything was fine after that.

There's no point in Gray and Keys apologising because it isn't appropriate for them to do so.

They clearly believe that women have no place officiating at professional football matches and no amount of apologising can alter the fact that that is what they believe. Not that their views are in any way relevant as the FA is actively pursuing a strategy to get more women officiating in the male game and Gray and Keys have absolutely no influence over this whatsoever.

They had no intention to make these views known to the general public or the female "lino" in particular and any embarassment caused to Ms Massey is attributable to the Sky mole who decided to leak the recording presumably to destroy Gray and Keys careers.

The ball is in Sky's court now and if they are of the view that football cannot be presented or analysed by people who believe that women shouldn't officiate  then Gray and Keys will have to go.

The fact that they have released the additional footage of Gray before the match would suggest that is the way they are heading as it looks as though they are attempting to make his position untenable.

.

It's interesting - the conspiricy theorist in me can't help thinking that this is the same Andy Gray who is threatinng to sue Murdoch (News Intl) for allegedly tapping his phone calls.

He could be in the unique postion of receiving a redundancy cheque and a compensation cheque in the same envelope?
