Liverpool and Chelsea could threaten to hijack Aston Villa’s £18m move for Sunderland striker Darren Bent.

Bent, who handed in a transfer request at the Stadium of Light earlier today, is thought to be close to signing for Villa but would welcome interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

The striker is reportedly in talks to complete a £70k a week contract negotiation with Aston Villa but sources suggest that he would favour a move to Kenny Dalgish’s Liverpool or Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea.

A potential stumbling block for Liverpool could be the price tag with Sunderland wanting offers in advance of £18m.

No surprise at all that other rival bidders are now being smoked out, we've done extremely well to keep it quiet this long. Amazing really in the age of 24hr news, twitter etc.

The fact that Bent is in the Birmingham area makes me think that the transfer will be sewn up pretty soon, why else would he come down on the day he handed in a request?

Otherwise he'd have to return to Sunderland for training with his tales between his legs.
Didn't this happen with Milner for us?
The General said we already agreed a deal to sell Milner to Citeh, we were just waiting for Ireland because he had problems with Gary Cock and how much money he was meant to be owed.

Db, give houllier time to build his team, yes we are in the bottom 4 but judge him after next season , not now.
Mon was given time and money and it's only fair to do the same with houllier, he is bringing class players in and I think he will achieve good things here.

There is no danger of Bent ending up either at Lpool or Chelski.
Liverpool do not have the money and players at Chelski are not signed by Ancelotti and he is not big enough name for them. This is just Agent talk.

I find that very hard to beleive

So do I

GET IT DONE VILLA

come on

I don't think there's any truth in these reports. Both clubs could have gone in for the player before us and didn't. Also, Liverpool are in worse financial shape than us, and old Roman has turned off the taps on Carlo. He's coming to B6. Looking forward to his press conference tomorrow.

Where did kendrick say this? Liverpool need several
players, they have other priorities than bent, can't see them
being in for bent , john henry has said they will not invest huge money , sounds as if medical done and length of contract agreed , hope it can go through tomorrow if reports on here are correct.
