Liverpool and Chelsea could threaten to hijack Aston Villa’s £18m move for Sunderland striker Darren Bent.Bent, who handed in a transfer request at the Stadium of Light earlier today, is thought to be close to signing for Villa but would welcome interest from Chelsea and Liverpool. The striker is reportedly in talks to complete a £70k a week contract negotiation with Aston Villa but sources suggest that he would favour a move to Kenny Dalgish’s Liverpool or Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea.A potential stumbling block for Liverpool could be the price tag with Sunderland wanting offers in advance of £18m.
anyway Chris , what are your thoughts on Mr Bent ?

Amazing really in the age of 24hr news, twitter etc.

Amazing really in the age of 24hr news, twitter etc. The fact that Bent is in the Birmingham area makes me think that the transfer will be sewn up pretty soon, why else would he come down on the day he handed in a request?Otherwise he'd have to return to Sunderland for training with his tales between his legs.

I've said elsewhere that he's not a player I particularly like due to the limitations in his all round game but if he scores the goals then I think I can live with it and with Young, Downing, Albrighton and Adam supplying him with the opportunities there's no reason why he shouldn't.

Bang on. The fact is that Randy was not willing to trust MON with any more money. He had wasted at least 50 of 80 m or so he spent on players.
