We've offered over the odds for him (imo) but he is just the type of player
we need now and have done for several seasons.........natural goal scorer

Hopefully the deal will be struck and subsequent contract details followed
by ok medical will allow the lad to train with the squad a few times before
the weekend

A signing like this gives notice of intent to the supporters and I for one am
excited at the prospect of Darren getting on the end of some of the crosses
delivered by messrs Young/Albrighton/Downing

Glad I retained my Wigan ticket for next week now !!

Collymore doesn't like Bent, they've had a twitter row before.

I dont understand how anyone cannot be excited by the possibility of getting Bent. We have been crying out for someone who is a natural goalscorer since the Saunders/Atkinson days.

With the chances we create i think he would be a massive signing.

As for the idea that we should spend the money abroad, I just dont agree. Hes a proven scorer that will fit straight into the team and keep us up.

Cash only preferably, but £19mill less £7 mill for Carew and Ireland would work for me.

I just hope we are not being used as a stalking horse for say Liverpool on this one.

The club will not say anything until a fee has been agreed

He's not officially ours until the Mail publish a back page photo of him and Houllier, holding a shoulder each of a replica shirt, bearing his name, whilst sitting in the North Stand.

Simply holding a scarf above the head is a bit too 1980s now

I was just thinking the same. I recon this could run for a while if im honest.

The thing i do like is it seems the player wants to come to us.

What's the latest? I couldn't log in earlier. It's not on the BBC gossip column anymore. Is that a bad sign?

it was funny and looked like he was trying to convince himself that it was a silly thing for bent to want to go to the villa... i would imagine because he likes to think his links up in the north east are actually important... lol...
