David Craig, complete w****r he's trying his best to play it all down as if it's not going to happen

He always look as though he's got somebody elses false teeth in.

I realise this makes me look silly but I´d rather keep Ireland than Downing.

They'd be welcome to any of the following:

Beye, NRC, Warnock, Ireland, Petrov, Heskey.

I'd rather it was just £18m cash though.

Or £20m and Pires.

agree with all them, and would throw in Carew, Gabby and Downing as well

I just hope we are not being used as a stalking horse for say Liverpool on this one.

Seems Liverpool are more interested in Downing.

He'd definitely be a good signing for us, excellent news.

Where was this money for MON? I presume that's why he left?

Looks like Downing could be off as well, a good news day all round!

I hope he stays as he has been one of our steadier players.

I agree, Downing has been great. Without his goals and assists we'd be in even more shit. Why are people so keen to ged rid of him???

There's a whole thread on why Downing is shit. Being a big girl when it comes to tackles is one of the reasons. Not being involved enough is another.

And as has been pointed out Bent does not create goals so getting rid of someone like Downing to bring him in would be stupid.

not saying it's gospel but it includes some reasonable thoughts on the prospect...

Albrighton and Banna/Adam will create more than Downing.

Flatters to deceive in my book.

I was just thinking the same. I recon this could run for a while if im honest.

The thing i do like is it seems the player wants to come to us.

I said earlier when I logged in at lunch - Les Ferdinand. Villa don't do signing top players in their prime for huge fees. Just fear we will see this go the same way. God I would love him in a Villa shirt, knocking in a couple against City on Sat evening!

Jesus! I hope this one goes through. We must follow it up with the Charlie Adam signing . Bent thrives on balls played down the sides of the centre-backs, Adam is one of the best in the Premier league at threading through balls between defenders. With the width we have to supply from the wings, having someone who can get it down and provide defence splitting passes is a must for Bent.

this isn't Doug's Villa. Doug often had an agenda. Randy backed MON, and is backing GH. I have no doubts about this one.

In fact all we need now is Darren Bent profanity laced tweet confirming the deal.

Think that Bent can play pretty well on his own - 2 wingers and some solidity in the middle and I reckon it's beginning to take shape.
