Sorry lads just can't get excited at all about this.  Should we really be creaming ourselves over a player whom the next England manager was willing to take a 6.5 million pound loss on when moving him on from Spurs to Slumberland?  I think not, Harry is no fool and if he knows the true value of a player.

I just cant help thinking that this 18/24 million pounds could be so much better spent somewhere within the boundaries of continental Europe.

Harry is not on the boat!
Bent is better than Crouch and has better scoring record than Defoe and plays more games less injury prone.

Biggest signing since Dean Saunders?

Collywobbes maybe, but even pre breakdown that one always looked like a gamble. All  be it a gamble worth taking.

But this bloke pretty much guarantees goals and doesn't come with a track record of causing problems in training, coasting through matches when it doesn't suit him and so on.

We don't even have Makoun listed yet in the player profiles on the OS, I doubt they'll be headlining with what is still -at this stage- speculation.

How do people know what the Sunderland board are doing? Why have they allowed him to travel to Birmingham in the first place for talks?

Because after training finshes he can get in his car and go wherever he likes.

I like the way our website is so up to date on today's news.

They never announce anything until it's been completed. There's not much to announce at the moment.

I can't believe this will happen. Really hope I'm wrong though.

If it does come off I think it would give the whole team a lift, beyond the direct impact of Bent as a player, and that would be worth £18m without a doubt.

The fact that this is the biggest potential signing in the club's history and it's all over every news site you think they may have made some comment, but alas no.

Good jobs H&V is here!

I'd agree with that on the Deano signing, there was an air of inevitability about the Stan signing, this one has come out of nowhere.

I'd rather the club sorted out getting him here before they worry about putting it on the website.

The club will not say anything until a fee has been agreed.  They don't want to go down the 'a fee has been agreed for Craig Bellamy' fiasco again.

I'd have said the Colymore signing in terms of what it symbolised rather than the player in question
