Good win away from home against a poor side that was always a potential banana skin.
decent performance from walker on his debut and also some great goals.
One thing puzzling me is why the Fuck didn't houllier take off young after his booking when were cruising comfortably at 2-0 and were playing blues next week!.
seemed obvious to everyone but.....

Very good point.

What made it more fustrating was he actually was being subbed and went to go applauding the fans. Unfortantely the boards had wrong numbers and he stayed on. As you say after the first yellow he should have been taken off.

Seemed obvious even to Ashley Young. He applauded the fans as he trotted off the pitch only to be told he was staying on.

The comments from people who weren't there sum up all the recent posts. Clueless.

We were comfortable winners today, there were inevitable periods of pressure from the opposition but we were the better team and won.

I was there. Most of the people that have knocked the performance weren't within 80 miles.

I wasn't there, but I agree. I think we were fairly comfortable and without the penalty they wouldn't have been in the game.

Just got back from another poor and disjointed performance. Witnessed another 3 schoolboy defending errors and were we playing a better team they would have scored. Gabby and Young just arnt at the races and looked completely disinterested.

Great to see a proper right back who plyed very well and was the biggest positive. Also Bannan and Albrighton played well in patches and were our better players.

Our third goal was the best i have seen from villa for quite a while.

Maybe better times ahead.

stop whinging! good day out, walker was great Albrighton did well and Bannan.

Well done to the players and the mighty Villa army that made the trip.

We are alive and kicking in the next round of the FA Cup!

Please god let us beat the scum next week.

Can't think of a defender scoring on his debut before
Stuart Gray played left back every now and then but he was definitely in midfiled on his debut (Bardford away)
Didn't another debutant score that day too?  4-2 wasn't it?

4-2 yes, Andy Gray scored too and it was his debut, it was a fantastic game considering they were going so well at the time but we were awesome on the road that season.

I've just got back from the game. My observations about the game are:
- good confidence-boosting win against a poor side who were given more cause for hope than they deserved.
- good to see Banana man back in the starting line-up: I thought he looked good and did not deserve to be subbed.
- NRC played a good holding game.
- Walker - goal aside - looks good going forward and worked well with Albrighton. Defensively, he may have some work to do re positioning.
- Gabby worked his socks off for very little return, and got m oved wide left late on; crazy! The guy deserves a medal for his work-rate.
- Pires is way past it; he really did not contribute anything and at least GH saw fit to subb him.
- Ashley Young should have been subbed rather than Banana-man: apart from his contributuion to the second goal he looked out of sorts and prima-donna-ish (take the effing snood off, kid, for a start). His 2 yellows were classic Ashley - petulant and unnecessary.
- Friedel kept us in the game with 2 amazing saves.
- Downing (a subb) still manages to frustrate by doing too little for a senior player.

Summary - the game was what I expected really. Frustrating and worrying but ultimately a success. Hou needs to be more adventurous; after the penalty (which was not a great decision, IMHO), we should have taken the game to them rather than invited them onto us.

Final word: the 5k Villa fans were generally magnificent.
For those who were there here's an already-posted view of the game.

Good away trip. Nice to win, was starting to forget what it felt like. Walker looks decent.

Think I'll leave it there.

Looking at his recent post match interviews, Ged is very quick to praise the fans which is good. I think we need to give him a chance to get his squad and see what he can do.

This isn't particularly a knock at him, but it's a bit transparent, really, isnt it? The charm offensive thing, i mean.

He just needs to stop us losing so many games, then the fans would get behind him.

I agree it is a bit transparent, but never the less it's still an effort. I just hope he can sort us out.
