Can't think of a defender scoring on his debut before
Stuart Gray played left back every now and then but he was definitely in midfiled on his debut (Bardford away)

What a great game that was!

Arguably the most exciting Villa game I've been to

One of mine too, certainly sticks in the memory, Andy and Stuart both scoring on their debuts, great day out...

Just got in from work, why did AY get sent off?

Looking forward to watching MOTD (well ITV) now, I've been avoiding it recently!

I was there my boss was a bradford fan and i was living in manchester, took him to the game, he took me to a great pub before the game, then the debuts of the 2 Grays, on the way back across the M62 there was a burnt out car with a burnt out bloke in across the motorway which i only jusy avoided, i took the bumper off as i went past in thick fog memories eh

Just back. Haven't read the thread yet but my thoughts....

Not a brilliant performance especially in the second half when Sheffield threw everything at us, but objective achieved and we're in the hat tomorrow.

Positives - Kyle Walker looks very good.  Not just for his run and goal (good start mind!) but his all round game as an attacking right back.  What are the chances of Harry letting him go though? Friedel kept us in the game. Good performance again from the youngsters - Clark looks increasingly assured, Albrighton was lively, and I thought Bannan was unlucky to be taken off.

Negatives - Pires does a passable impression of the invisible man's shadow. I thought he was completely pointless. Dunne was poor on and off. Gabby misses another one on one but this one certainly a lot harder than the one Stan fucked up in the second half, although he took his later chance well. Ash needlessly getting himself sent off means both he and Heskey now miss the Blose game.

Good crowd at the Villa end - but only about 16500 all told - thought more Sheffield fans would turn out to get the scalp of a currently poor performing PL team.

As an aside, before the game I was chatting to a personal friend of one of the senior players (who had acquired tickets for him). Names witheld to protect the identity but let's just say he had a non-English accent.  He confirmed in no uncertain terms that a number of the senior players are not at all happy with Houllier and his methods, and many aren't happy with the training regime.  I pointed out that if I was a professional footballer on £50-60,000 a week it shouldn't matter who the manager was and I would expect them to follow the regime of whoever the manager was.  Appears certain though that, as we already know really, a number of players will be shown the door.

Oh, and nice to see Ian Taylor was there too

Good, but I was worried for a while 2nd half.
Anyway we are in the hat, this could be our year.

Villa fans in the lower tier taking the piss out of corpulent steward, you really are so cruel.

Also a rather portly Sheffield fan sitting near our fans - to be fair he took it in really good spirit and actually tried to get his tits out for the lads!

Pretty awful.

We learnt nothing from that.

The only player who had a good game (Walker) was the one GH hasn't had time tohave an influence over.

It's just delaying the inevitable.

Play like that next week and we'll lose comfortably.

Clearly written by someone who was there.

It was a comfortable win. (from someone who was)

The third goal made it sound more comfortable than it was, but a win's a win, and on we go.  Walker and Albrighton were great, Pires was utterly anonymous.  Ashley Young is a fucking idiot.

No it didn't, it was comfortable.
