Jol In, and move froggy up stairs if needs be !!  he is not the manager a club like us needs, he is yesterdays news and it looks like Lerner went for the cheap option !!

Of the candidates linked at the time he was the outstanding one but you have to question his record at in particular Ajax and Hamburg. His teams always tend to suffer collapses late on in seasons too.

I'm another who doesn't understand the obsession here. It's not like he is Jose Mourinho.

We are not playing well and thats down to 11 on the pitch.

Who picks the 11? His hands have been tied to some extent with the injuries yet he still picks the same defence and they cost us a goal every game. Beye, Lichaj and Cuellar could have come in at some point over the last few games and given us more options instead of continuing with Dunne and Warnock.

That's harsh on Houllier.  There is certainly some merit in playing Cuellar at Centre Back but I cannot see how putting a right back - especially a youngster like Lichaj - at left back would help us.  He'd (rightly) get slaughtered if it did not work.

i think he means switch luke to left back and lichaj at right back - cant be worse than warnock.

I think the "obsession" with Jol stems from his getting Tottingham to two successive 5th places and a dodgy curry away from 4th, while playing decent football.  I have to admit though that he doesn't seem to have pulled up any trees at Hamburg or Ajax. Maybe he is better suited to the less technical PL.

One thing in Jol's favour: I'm fairly sure that at Hamburg he got them to the UEFA Cup semi-final.

Like I said this morning though, it isn't going to happen.

If Jol does come in and goes half a dozen games without a win culminating in saying he still likes Spurs then it'll be time for him to leave as well.

Am I in the minority in thinking Jol wouldn't improve us.

No, clearly not.

If you'd read the thread. Or even just the last page.

I work with loads of Ajax fans and trust me they don't have many nice things to say about him. The name Mido comes frequently to mind when talking of Jol.

Ajax fans have a massive expectation and they ought to. On paper this team should beat every time over here comfortably week on week, yet they sit in 4th spot and drew to NEC at the weekend. He may have done an amazing job at Spurs, but over here he's not done well at all and his constant moaning at the end of every match has really grated on the Ajax fans.

Its possible that he's more suited to the Prem than the Eredivisie, but he's constant fallings out with his own assistant and rumours that they weren't even on speaking terms is hardly professional.

I guess Ajax for a dutchman is a huge challenge but I was surprised that he left Hamburg as he was doing a decent job there if in the end he just fell a bit short. Like at Ajax. And Spurs.

He's a bit like MON isn't he, in that he'll improve the team and lift morale but in terms of actually achievement like winning trophies, he tends to come up a bit short.

Why isn't there any clamour for Pieter Huistra, Michel Preud'homme or Fred Rutten as our next manager?

They're all doing better than Jol is, hence him leaving.

I really fail to see the obsession.

Premier league experience probably.

The Times has speculated that he doesn't want the Newcastle job which begs the question, why did he leave Ajax ?

Jol In

Hmm, the old "repeat it enough and it'll start to look like a good idea" tactic.
