I suppose you have a point, it's a bit like when you take your kids to Disneyland.  "Look kids, there's Micky Mouse, and Goofy and Donald Duck, let's get your picture taken with them and get their autographs".  Then you walk away and think to yourself, they're just people in suits.

eh ?...........

The point I'm making is that the people who were there to put gloss on our bid made not the slightest bit of difference to the FIFA delegates voting.  Two votes was all they got and one of those was from England.

Russia and Qatar had no dignitaries/celebrities/Royalty among their teams as far as I know.

It was no ones fault except the corrupt bastards who gave and the corrupt bastards who received.

In a real contest they would have been impressed by our organisation and professionalism.  Here it didn't matter because they were busy weighing the brown envelopes.

The only thing that's good about it is it makes Cameron and the tories look like twerps.  No bad thing.

How so?

Because we looked entirely ridiculous going over there fawning over them in a pack of three like we did.  And him especially.  Being an Old Etonian I am sure he enjoyed many a cold day in the playground playing slam with his mates.

I have a feeling that you think he is a twerp to begin with, so his being there hasn't changed that one iota.   If he'd stayed at home, he would have been bashed as well.   It's as pointless as blaming Beckham.

Although it pains me to say it, I thought Cameron's speech today was excellent. Confident, clear, done without notes.

I'm sure it'll be the last time he convinces me on anything, but he managed it today.

David Bond at the BBC: "Before today's World Cup vote, Sepp Blatter reminded FIFA executive comm members about "certain media" and "recent media coverage.""

Forget all that "Woodward and Bernstein" bullshit, dragging up old allegations against FIFA and then broadcasting them two days before the vote was not an exercise in investigative journalism, it was the BBC letting us down.

Everyone knows Blatter is a ******, and that Warner is a bigger ****** and overtly corrupt, but why on earth choose to shout it from the rooftops as the bid team was going to head out to Zurich?

Only in this country would Beckham be lauded as a hero footballer for the national team. A very average footballer who if he was ugly wouldn't be half as successful as he is now, he won fuck all whilst playing for England, got sent off in 98 when we would have beat Argentina and lets face it he's as thick as pig shit. He said he was very proud of England's success over the past 20 years, i must have missed those.

Excellent and I agree. Thought the whole thing was hilarious on Sky today. That idiot presenter shouting breathlessly at us all for about two hours as they hyped it more and more and more. I would have rather listened to some 'lift muzak' than that twat...

Agreed.  I'm a socialist and republican and in other circumstances come the glorious day would happily line up all Tories and Royals against the wall.  However our future king and our PM together with probably today's most famous footballer all gave a solid performance.  The guy who really impressed me though was the lad from Manchester.

Because to have held the programme back until after the vote in an attempt to not influence the decision would have made Panorama as corrupt as the people they were investigating.  We should be proud to have such investigative journalists with the freedom of speech that we enjoy in our country and instead of blaming them turn our attentions to the corrupt tossers the BBC rumbled in the first place.

They didn't rumble anyone, though, it was pretty much entirely old stuff which had been done before.

This was no great feat of investigative journalism.

I think a lot of politicians are twerps, but, especially a twerp who just wants to swan in at the last minute to say he swung it and take all the plaudits if it comes off.  Blairesque if you will.

Well the very fact that the BBC reporter is the only person to be banned from FIFA's headquarters clearly shows that he has ruffled feathers.  I think it is entirely unfair on the BBC to imply that the programme has little or no merit and I believe that they acted in the best interests of the game.  Yes we already knew that Warner and co are as corrupt as Robert Mugabe but that doesn't mean that we should stop highlighting the fact, particularly in light of the fresh evidence implicating them in dodgy activity to the tune of 100 million dollars.
