David Bond at the BBC: "Before today's World Cup vote, Sepp Blatter reminded FIFA executive comm members about "certain media" and "recent media coverage.""

Forget all that "Woodward and Bernstein" bullshit, dragging up old allegations against FIFA and then broadcasting them two days before the vote was not an exercise in investigative journalism, it was the BBC letting us down.

Everyone knows Blatter is a c***, and that Warner is a bigger c*** and overtly corrupt, but why on earth choose to shout it from the rooftops as the bid team was going to head out to Zurich?

Because to have held the programme back until after the vote in an attempt to not influence the decision would have made Panorama as corrupt as the people they were investigating.  We should be proud to have such investigative journalists with the freedom of speech that we enjoy in our country and instead of blaming them turn our attentions to the corrupt tossers the BBC rumbled in the first place.

They didn't rumble anyone, though, it was pretty much entirely old stuff which had been done before.

This was no great feat of investigative journalism.

Well the very fact that the BBC reporter is the only person to be banned from FIFA's headquarters clearly shows that he has ruffled feathers.  I think it is entirely unfair on the BBC to imply that the programme has little or no merit and I believe that they acted in the best interests of the game.  Yes we already knew that Warner and co are as corrupt as Robert Mugabe but that doesn't mean that we should stop highlighting the fact, particularly in light of the fresh evidence implicating them in dodgy activity to the tune of 100 million dollars.

Absolutely agree.  What criticism would they have faced if they broadcast it tomorrow having held it back?  All those having a go now would crucify them.  Holding it back would be tantamount to condoning it.  We do not have this corruption here because we have such a media.  We should be grateful for that.

Only in this country would Beckham be lauded as a hero footballer for the national team. A very average footballer who if he was ugly wouldn't be half as successful as he is now, he won fuck all whilst playing for England, got sent off in 98 when we would have beat Argentina and lets face it he's as thick as pig shit. He said he was very proud of England's success over the past 20 years, i must have missed those.

Excellent and I agree. Thought the whole thing was hilarious on Sky today. That idiot presenter shouting breathlessly at us all for about two hours as they hyped it more and more and more. I would have rather listened to some 'lift muzak' than that twat...

bet your another that hates the x factor but still watches it, if you would rather listen to muzak what stopped you ?

How did you guess John, I'm impressed! Add in the Apprentice too. Though I do draw the line at I'm A Celebrity. What stopped me was that shouting twat's repeated insistence that the vote was due any second...

I think that if one good thing can come of this, is it doesn't help once in a while to be reminded of how the English are often perceived abroad.  As a nation we have a certain aloofness, a superiority attitude (e.g. "The Best League in the World") and one of the legacies of Empire is a lingering resentment in many areas of the globe.

I am sure these are as much factors in FIFA's decision as BBC documentaries and alleged Russian backhanders.

For what it is worth, if I was the FA I'd now walk away from any future bids.  A European country won't  in any event now be successful until 2030/2034 (Gulp! I'll be 70 that year...) and FIFA can try to find some other Patsy to give the process some sheen of creditability.  And the next time some foreign FA wants the England team to come and play a friendly, unless it is part of the planned assault on finally winning a major tournament, tell the likes of Jack Warner to fuck off.

Probably didn't vote for us as they knew this country would make a balls up of it, let's face it, we've got form.

When 1966? 1996?
Form at fucking everything up.

Talking of 1996, I remember that cringe making opening ceremony.
Two blokes running round the pitch in a pantomine dragon outfit, with somebody dressed as St. George chasing around after him. Ghastly.

so your 'form' for the country f******g up everything, is a pantomime dragon wobbling about in the opening ceromony,
you dont half post some absolute bollox sometimes ace
Silly, silly boy.
That wasn't an example of the country's fuck ups, just a laughably amatuerish performance they put on in 1996, Peter mentioned the year which reminded me.
You humourless nerk.

If you don't like it, tough shit.

Agree with that Topdeck, there is no point in the FA having a place on the FIFA commitee, what benefits do we get from FIFA, we are playing a friendly in Thailand in June, what's the point.

Although it pains me to say it, I thought Cameron's speech today was excellent. Confident, clear, done without notes.

I'm sure it'll be the last time he convinces me on anything, but he managed it today.
Weird, I saw him in an interview today and thought the same. He's still a twat though.

At least it means no more poxy friendlies in Trinidad and sucking up to the Mr Corrupts of this world.

We should also stop giving money to other countries to develop the game worldwide.  We don't get anything for it. That's Fifa's job - let them do it!
