As the Green Brigade seem to be all over the Brigada 1874 site and links seem forged between you, what are your thoughts on the poppy banners they had?

The group consists of different people with different views some may condemn it others might not.

Don't you think that is morally blank though? There has to be an occasion where you draw the line, or is every subject fair game in the 'Ultra' world as long as its on a banner?

They're not apologists for what celtic fans do or don't do. I know one or two Celtic fans and I'm not fussed if they don't officially condemn anything.

On another note I heard 2 or 3 new songs on Saturday that seemed to be designed to breathe new life into old songs sung. Although in saying that the Nigel Spink, rolls the ball to Platty...got an airing. As did the Bells are Ringing. (The latter good, the former? meh.)

There wasthe Deoeche Mode - 'Just Can't Get Enough' with the instrumental bit being the hook for us all to join in on. Also to the tune of Macarena was a surprisingly great Barry Bannan song - 'Who needs Barry when you get Barry Bannan? (x3) Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Barry Bannan. And shoes off if you love Villa is surely going to catch on everywhere from Craven Cottage to St Geordie Park to George Bush conferences in Iraq.

I didn't ask them to apologise for the Celtic fans, or take responsibility for it. I just asked what their thoughts were. Which I think is a fair question given the links between the 2 groups.

What their thoughts were? Why? He's not likely to say that he couldn't care less or that he thought it was a great banner and sentiments alike, is he? But as I said they are not apologists for anyone, nor are they an established group with deep seated roots and public- provoking opinions across the football fraternity.

there were a few guys up the back who were shirtless and one bloke who got so carried away with taking his shoes off he took his trousers off as well!  He was rightly ridiculed by all and sundry with a rousing Chorus of "what the f**king hell is that"

If you look at this thread, I've actually been fully behind them since I knew about them.

 The Poppy Banners were done by the Green Brigade. The Brigada 1874 site has numerous Green Brigade/Celtic fans, has at least one link to a forum/fanzine that appears pro Celtic/Irish/Republican, and strong links appear to have been formed between the Green Brigade & Brigada 1874.
As such, I wanted to know the views of Brigada 1874 so as I could make my own judgement on whether to support continue supporting them and standing up for them, based on answers directly from the group.

Quite why you have a problem with that i'm not sure. Perhaps you think I should just give them my support blindly, just because they're a group of Villa fans?

But surely to be taken seriously as a group you'd need a unanimous opinion from the group? What's the point in coming out with a statement that says 'Some agree with the Green Brigade, some don't'?

You never see a big organization come out and say 'Well, generally we don't agree with us, but a few of our members might'

If you don't want to be associated with stuff like that then surely it's better to come out with unified statements from the beginning. You spoken about being anti racist/anti facist but you're just kind of sitting on the fence here. If people knew where you stood you may get more support.

They are a group of lads who sat in the lower north last Wednesday week. I very much doubt they have positions on all issues. They couldn't decide whether to sit down or to stand up let alone take a unified position on  way more contentious issues.

It seems to me that whoever is behind this Brigada group need educating about anti-fascism in as much as it was ours and there forefathers who fought against fascism,tyranny and opression from 1939-1945.
If it wasn't for there sacrifices fascism wouldnt have been defeated and the way of life we have now would have been much different.

They're a bunch of kids who want to sing songs, wave flags and take their shoes off cos they love Villa. I don't think they need to be any more issue driven than that.
