Just out of interest and im a little younger than most. Why does everyone hate Stan? To be fair to him for all the hate he's right!

13 goals in three years probably has something to do with it.

That and disparaging remarks about the club in print.

Recalling from memory but:  "I attended my first ever Villa game in the old Witton Lane. It was 0-0 and I fell asleep. Perhaps it was an omen."

I think he also attributed his need to stay in the spotlight re Ulrika and all that jazz because of his move to Villa. We had a tendency to go off the radar if we weren't competing at the top end of the table, so he needed to stay in the spotlight via other methods. Or summat like that.

Think it was all included in a chapter titled Villa: Going nowhere in his Tell All cash cow.  Which also includes such gems such as him viewing us as a step down, the first indication to him that his career was on the wane.

There probably are periods in our history when that would have been perfectly valid, but not in 1997. At that point we were seen as an upwardly mobile side, possible title outsiders and Stan was very much the missing piece in the jigsaw.

Yet Stan let down a lot of people, most of all himself.

Not making light of his personal issues, don't want to open up that hornets nest at all.
But even now he seems to blame everyone else but himself for what went wrong, and expresses very little remorse for destabilising the dressing room and costing Brian Little his job.

They discussed this on drivetime yesturday, I have to say I agree with everything Stan said,
He also stated he isn't anti BBC as he turned them down last year.

Also I recall Ian Wright saying the reason he left BBC was because of the same things Stan said.

Collymore "broadcasts" on TALKsport  and is therefore in the employ of a media organisation who are in direct competition with the BBC.  It will almost be part of the job description to run down anything the BBC does, just like Sky and the rest of News International will have a dig at every opportunity.

Similarly, if he was still doing presenting or summarising stints on 5 Live, he would tow Aunty's line and you wouldn't hear a word of criticism of MOTD or its presenters.

Do you honestly think Stan would be bothered about 'knocking the competition' ?

Rubbish, he's opiniated and on this occasion he's 100% correct.

Probably teaching you to suck eggs here, but the Guardian's football podcast - I think its twice a week - is great.

It's hosted by that guy off Channel 4's Italian football with various experts depending on what they're going to talk about.  They appear to know what they're on about but do it in a manner than is not condescending and also mildly amusing.

Watching al-Qaeda Sport (ManUre v Scunthorpe) and the pundits are Lawrie McEnemy and Mark Hateley,
Hateley is grey and with earstud.

BBC have to be seen as neutral and not want debate on MOTD. MOTD does need shaking up, but I won't listen to that big-headed waste of talent that is Collymore. He loves himself and thinks everyone wants to listen to what comes out of his mouth.

Yep. I've been a fan of James Richardson for years. There was some sort of campaign to get him the MOTD2 job and it's a real shame he didn't get it. He'd have been perfect for it.

Luckily, I record MOTD and skip through all the analysis/back slapping. It's a superb programme in that format.

I think he is pretty decent on talk shit.

He is right too some of the analysis on MotD has been really poor in the last few seasons; Shearer offers about as much insight as a potato.

Some of the commentary and analysis of the world cup games they covered was a joke.  They were pretty open about the fact they knew nothing about some of the sides.  What the hell were they doing before the match?  They should have been researching the sides they were about to offer their pearls of wisdom upon.

Research? Not Lawro, he's too busy trying to be funny. And failing miserably.

Mark Bright on BBC tonight wins 'State the bleedin obvious' award. No ideas, no opinion. And he slagged off the GH appointment for no good reason on the radio this week. Rubbish pundit.

Ye Gods how the BBC has suffered without the talents of Ian Wright.  The pair of them can stay on Channel 5 where I have no need to ever stumble upon them again.  MOTD is far from perfect but it does have the best theme tune of any football programme, and is an integral part of football life.  Yes I swear at it and about it, but that is part of the fun, isn't it?

Me too. I also skip all the post-match interviews (except when it's Villa).

With the exception of Lee Dixon, MOTD's pundits come across like a bunch of golfing buddies. Which is hardly surprising.

I used to like Gavin Peacock, what happened to him?
