No dave, but a team with new signings and lookinG as though we have turned the corner is a more attractive proposition to some than a team battling relegation- I really feel we will finish in the top 10 and all this bollocks in the press about joining a team battling relegation will be put to bed.

Something very exciting is happening here and I see good times around the corner.

you can get 20/1 for vila to finish in top ten.. I reckon thats a good bet

If Mark E Smith, Markie Mark Wahlberg, and Malky Mackay got together and did an autograph session in a really big tent, would it be a Mark E Markie Malky Marquee signing?

I've seen Mark E Smith twice in a marquee, once he was singing (supporting the Super Furries) and the second time he was signing, copies of his autobiography. I don't think Malky Mackay was there though so it doesn't count.

I hope we sign Adam now if only to piss Hollyway off. Can't argue with the names heading out but still part of me wants Ireland to turn it around.

Still wouldn't get too over confident lads.

I know we've signed Bent (record signing, super striker), Makoun and the young talent Kyle Walker... and hopefully 1 or 2 more before the transfer window shuts, but those signings don't automaticially mean we're immune from relegation now. It's still going to be a nervous time and until we get further and further away from the bottom 3, that's when we can perhaps push even further and see where we end up.

The loan signing of Walker looks like it's improved us already, we looked really good down the right side against small heath. It can only get better...

Another defender perhaps and then to put the icing on the cake... Charlie Adam. Words to describe Ian Holloway's press conference if it happens... "dis is gonna be good".

i will be gobsmacked if we sign samba. i do feel tho the next cb we buy will be 6foot plus, black and very athletic, sambas only 2 of those. dont rule out any more man city rejects lescott or micha richards maybe

I'm not that overfussed on Samba to be honest. Blackburn have robbed us once already when we paid over the odds for Warnock. Unless there's someone really good out there available like Lescott, i'd rather wait and see how the back four work out with the new midfield in front of them.

Watched Lescott last weekend. Would be tempted to say he is finished. Pace completely gone, totally bereft of positional play and confidence. He was never the best defender at Everton but he was always quick, good in the air and on the ball. We would be well advised to stay well clear there. Not gone on Samba. He is decent but Cuellar, Dunne and Collins are better. We dont need a centre half - we have 5 all capable of playing to a decent level.

Thankfully we seem to have killed off the Warnock going on loan business. If they want him they can pony up 5m otherwise wait till the summer. Even though I really dislike him as a player Id be tempted to give him another chance in the cup game against Blackburn anyway. Id like us to rest our younger players every now and again and would be good to give Clark a break.

With Bent on board, Carew can go. Id say Fulham will take him. Only 250k or something Id say though. Considering our predicament I'm surprised Reo Coker hasnt been linked with someone. He has been crap since coming back from injury though.

Think Reo cocker should be put on loan at least. With Makoun being the main man and Hogg as cover. Need to get him off the wage bill. On loan at least he is kept match fit, if needed for a possible recall ......

Evening Mail reporting we've given up on Adam:

Quote
Villa have called a halt to their pursuit of Adam after Blackpool rejected their £2.5million and £3.5 million bids for the Scottish international midfielder.

Houllier and chairman Randy Lerner are not prepared to meet the inflated valuation they believe the Seasiders have put on Adam.

Villa could turn their attentions elsewhere, but are in no rush for midfield reinforcements and might be content to wait until the end of the season.

Evening mail at the cutting edge of transfer news again then.

Blimey, they accused US of being 'disrespectful' regarding our bids for Adam yet they won't even pay £500,000 for a Championship player? Oh dear Ian Holloway, you really have lost the plot.

You bought Adam for 500k and you're turning down the oppotunity for a 3.5 million profit for the size of Blackpool? Just let him go, he clearly doesn't want to play for Blackpool. This won't end well for them.

Holloway's rants have generally been quite entertaining.

However on this occasion he has made himself look rather foolish.  I imagine himself crying himself to sleep now that Adam has predictably stated his desire to leave.

Hurrah!

Aston Villa are ready to let unwanted midfielder Stephen Ireland join Newcastle on loan and are preparing a third bid for Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam.

I've no objections to Carew fucking off, but at this moment in time looking at the table, I wouldn't want him going to West Brom or West Ham.
