He only has 6 months left on his contract. Would be lucky to get 1.5m.

I'd be surprised if we got more than £1m but it's another off the wage bill, time now to get davies , warnock and Beye and Ireland either sold or loaned, the squad has more balance now we have a class right back, quality midfielder and top striker.

Lending Carew to a relegation rival who are a decent team who desperately need a goalscorer would be mental, especially given his propensity to do well immediately following a move.

Van Der Vaart cost just over £8m

Adam - £8m ha ha ha, very funny

You see a lot of this on football message boards. If Player A cost X, then no way is Player B worth Y etc, etc.

You simply cannot compare the ability of footballers in this way, as many other factors come into play. How old the player is (which affects re-sale value), how long does he have left on his contract (the buying club is effectively buying him out of his contract), and whether or not the player is English, which carries a premium.

The last one causes some confusion but agents will argue that English players have no issues settling in, are proven in the PL and won't have to spend a week jetting halfway round the world just to play an international friendly every few months.

Carew will be off for a nominal fee I'd expect; the real gain will be in the circa £1.25-1.5m wages we will save over the remaining six months of his contract.

He usually has to move country though. He wouldn't even have to move house going to the Baggies.

If he goes there I can see him taking the piss even more. Still, best to find him a home elsewhere. I'm no longer worried about a relegation Dogfight with the likes of West Brom but there's no need to take chances.

Anyone remember in the 80s blues loaning Coventry Mick ferguson- he scored the winner for them in a 1-0 win over blues and blues ended up being relegated- if anyone wants Carew they should stump up at least £1m- my guess is he will go to west ham.

You're first point is correct, but I don't care what criteria you use, no way is Charlie Adam worth £8m.  When they get relegated and he leaves for nowt, they'll wish they sold for a decent fee.

Secondly, partly true, but even Scotland have to travel to play European and World Cup qualifiers!

The Van Der Vaart factor seems to get used a lot these days, which ignores the fact that Van Der Vaart was an absolute steal, and if you compare other transfer fees against that deal, pretty much every single one of them looks poor value.

No dave, but a team with new signings and lookinG as though we have turned the corner is a more attractive proposition to some than a team battling relegation- I really feel we will finish in the top 10 and all this bollocks in the press about joining a team battling relegation will be put to bed.

Something very exciting is happening here and I see good times around the corner.

you can get 20/1 for vila to finish in top ten.. I reckon thats a good bet

Its great value. Who's that with...??

It was Coral but when I went in last night they denied it, although they knew exactly what I was talking about as a few people had been in to enquire

I think Adam would be as well sticking with Blackpool til the summer. I think Holloway knows that Blackpool could really start to struggle if they lose him and they aren't safe yet. I dont see people's big issue with Holloway, he is only trying to protect his clubs best interests, what we would expect from our manager in the situation.

It would be nice to get another creative midfielder in like Adam. But if not so be it. Hopefully Ireland will be given another opportunity to show he has the mental capabitility to make the most of his talent. If he does we could save ourselves a lot of money.

I also havent given up on Warnock and I wouldnt like to see him go. On form he is quite a decent full back. Maybe this spell out of the team could give him the kick up the arse he needed and he will come back a better player (a bit like Dunne).

It's a bit premature to say we arent going to be relegated for sure, but I tihnk with the signings we have made, the improvement in performances (defensively at least), I think we will start pushing up the table. Hopefully in 2 months time we will be safley mid table and it will give GH the chance to reassess the squad by giving the likes of Ireland and Warnock another shot. He can then decide in the summer to keep or replace.

Spot on.
As shit as he's been, when he put's his mind to it he does well.
I could see him going on the rampage for one of the West's to begin with.

From The Mail, You never know if its true or if he's a troublemaker but you do wonder whether treating players like this is the best way of getting the best from them.

Quote
Outcast Stephen Warnock made to train with Aston Villa reserves

Stephen Warnock's time at Villa Park appears to be over after he was relegated to join in with the reserves.
The left-back was sent to join in with Kevin MacDonald's side as he prepares for a spell on the sidelines.

Liverpool are interested in the England international but have yet to make a formal enquiry as they weigh up alternatives. Meanwhile, Newcastle want to take Villa’s unsettled midfielder Stephen Ireland on loan.
And Villa striker Andreas Weimann has joined Watford on loan until the end of the season.

That would be for a Top 6 finish. Betfair is 2/1 for a top 10 finish and has not gone above 3/1 this season.
