What we must avoid is panic signings such a Robbie Keane

I'd rather a Keane than some nobody from Jamaica.

remember when we signed that nobody from Trinidad & Tobago? I can only imagine what this place would have been like had the internet existed back then. It's not a permanent deal, so how about we just give the bloke a chance and get behind him?

Are you having a laugh on the Yorke comparison? Agreed that if he arrives we should get behind him of course.

Well, if it is true, what's with all this loaning? Have we no money or something? Jaysus.

It appears the Forfana deal fell through based on wages not a medical

Strange as he's young and supposedly talented and you'd have thought the board could have seen this as a shrewd investment, the lad could be worth millions in a couple of years time

Looking at GH's comments and reading between the lines, it looks as though this lad wants far more than the comparable young players already at the club.  Paying a lot more to a young player can really upset the pay structure.  If this is the case, he must have wanted quite a bit more.  It is a bit different for a senior player when there are many other things to take into account to justify wages that are different to others.

Exactly, think how many promising young players we have and how we could quite easily upset all of them in one swoop by bringing in a similar player on inflated wages. It's the wage structure that has got us into our current predicament and yet some people want us to go and perpetuate the problem.

Are you all on the stupid pills today? Who has said we should "perpetuate the problem"? If you want to try to convince yourself that not signing a promising young players is great news I can't stop you but at least make an effort to try to understand the counter argument.

The stupid pills were all sold out, someone had bought them all, you wouldn't know anything about that would you?

I see the counter "argument" if you can call it that, though maybe you miss my point and attribute a point of view to me that i never stated.  I think it would have been good to buy Forfana, but, only on the right terms. I never said that it was good news not to be signing promising young players, but we can't be upsetting the applecart even further by paying silly money. None of us know the amount he was asking for, but i'm sure the club would have done the deal if they thought he was worth what he was asking. Plus, we never know, the deal might still get done.

Some very hypocritical people on here.

If that's aimed at me then have the balls to say it.

I'd also like you to explain wjy mot signing a player we mostly quite excited about signing is "great news". It might be sensible business practice, or it might not be, but that's not the same thing at all.

As a fan of the football team rather than the business I'm much more concerened about us having a good team on the pitch that a healthy profit and loss acoount.

It was a general remark, but aimed at you aswell I suppose.

We all want the best for Aston Villa, we have just finished a period where we signed alot of average players and paid them alot of money, resulting in us having a very high wage bill.
We have now took a stand and changed our approach and people are moaning.

I am disappointed but let's face it lads he is a young french lad who has never played at the highest level in France never mind England.

We are in a transitional period where we are changing our recruitment policy, which includes not giving in to players high wage demands, especially young inexperienced 19 year olds.

Remember aswell guys that the crowda are well down at Villa Park, so there is even more emphasis on reducing the wage bill.

It's still not great news, is it?

It's disappointing.

Yes I agree with you. it is disappointing

why am I having a laugh? What was your opinon on Dwight Yorke when he first arrived? Any different to Cummings? You'd never heard of him - right? Nobody is saying Cummings is the next Dwight Yorke. But I am saying why would you dismiss a player so quickly without any knowledge of him whatsoever?

Yorke was a 16 year old kid when we signed him. How old is Cummings?

He's a nobody. God help us if this is the sort of player Lerner is only willing to invest in.

The transfer window has yet to open, the time to judge Lerner is one month hence.
