7th-12th has really pissed me off. And it is day 1.

let's all calm down and see what he says tomorrow. I'm not going to get carried away or make any judgement on the man based on something in print or on the internet. Now if he says similar things in the press conference we have an issue. I want to hear from his mouth, not in an article, how he sees us and what he thinks we can achieve. We'll all have a better idea of where we are going then.

Those comments are not really worth getting upset about, I think. I dare say it's how we are perceived outside of our own.

I prefer to focus on his more upbeat comments in re to how we have a good setup, how he likes the environment and conditions and also that the demand (and thus expectation) is to progress year on year.

He's right though, isn't he? Fantastic infrastructure, proud history, likely finish 7th - 12th.
You might argue for 6th but given the mayhem of the last few months, is prediction is something to put money on.

Or maybe we should have hired some YES MAN who'll blow sunshine up our arses by saying that we're the greatest team currently on the planet and he'll guarantee a top 4 finish? That didn't work out too well for the last Liverpool manager, did it?

I wonder what an imaginary internet of 1987 would have made of GT's comments when he joined the club then.

Paul Faulkner:

“In fact, he stands out as a football man who understands the ethos of our club and shares our core values."

Sounds so corporate, 'core values' indeed, we're not ICI, we're in it to win it - aren't we ?

Not sure about the executive set up at AVFC.

Can't see what the fuss is about his comments. He hasn't said anything that we don't already know. My only quibble is that I would put us as a club between 6-8 but that's hardly anything to shout home about.

It is M Houllier's job to try and take us into the next bracket and he has my full support. Bienvenue Gerard.

I think he's a good appointment. He has a proven track record in the Premiership and in Europe. Welcome to our club Monsieur Houllier, OBE.

I had a few quid on but at 8/1.

Anyone been paid out yet? Ladbrokes are being rather slow online.

While we wait and see what our new boss has to say, I am reminded of a manager we had a few years ago who made a point of constantly talking the club, and indeed the team down via a number of throw away lines. It is the wrong road to take and will set the fans against you almost immediately.

Houllier would do well not to make comparisions with Liverpool, or indeed mention his former club unless the subject is bought up by the press.

We are not as big or succesfull as Liverpool, we all know that but don't take kindly to being reminded of this, particularly by any member of staff at the club. That sort of thing is best left to glory hunting Reds in the pub.

What would be nice though is for the club to have the ambition to be as big and as succesfull as those ahead of us. It may be a gargantuan task but there's no harm in trying.

Not sure about the executive set up at AVFC.

He's an executive of a multi-million pound company. When it comes to corporate speak these days, Alan Sugar is not the role model. I'm disappointed that we didn't get something like "We have committed to assertively integrate high-quality management techniques to exceed customer expectations" whilst maybe dropping out some old favourites like paradigm shift, low hanging fruit , proactive empowerment and dynamic tipping point. It's all bovine stools these days.
