Agreed but picking a man whose never managed before would certainly not fit the criteria the general a d Faulkner expressed of an experienced manager - I'm sure people would be justifiably concerned if that happened , but we will have to wait and see until the choice is made and the claret a d blue smoke is seen flying over the trinity road stand.

I think Poyet would be quite an interesting and different appointment.

even when they appoint the new man, you wont know whether he's going to be succesfull or not,
whoever it is will have some peole pleased and others angry, thats just the way of things,
just because they dont pick one of yours or my favourites doesnt mean anything to be honest,
What you're saying is that every candidate, if appointed, has an equal chance of being a success. I don't think that's right: I think there are a good number of candidates out there who stand a much better chance of being a success than, for example, a 50-year old rookie who has only a handful of games experience.  Equally there are a number of candidates out there who, while not being my personal favourite, stand a better chance of being a success than that rookie.

My objection to MacDonald is not that he isn't my favourite but that I think it would be a massive and unnecessary gamble.

They've earned the right to not be criticised until an appointment is made. Not until he's proved to be any good or not, just until he arrives. And this is from Chris 'Party Line' Smith?

People getting worked up over an appointment that has yet to be made is ridiculous. People getting worked up if that appointment tuns out to be Alan Curbishley, for instance, would have some justification. As ever I personally would give any new manager the benefit of the doubt but know very well that a lot of other people would be extremely angry.

Ring ring:
KM: Hello is that Jermaine Defoe? It's Kevin MacDonald here.

JD: Who?

KM: Kevin MacDonald from Aston Villa, fancy moving to the midlands.....

(For Jermaine Defoe read ANY top class player)

Hmmmm...

If we install KM then what makes you think that anyone will come to us?  Reducing the wage bill by getting a cheap inexperienced manager to free up funds to attract players is not a sound business plan.  Nobody will come to us of any status under MacDonald.  Still, brings the wage bill down hey......

That's a little unkind to KM, and the thought of Jermaine Defoe answering his own phone is highly unlikely.

He could always show him the medals he has won, how many other managers have won the double ?

How's that any different from you spending the last three weeks telling us everything was going to shit, how they'd pulled the funding, how we were all about doing things on the cheap?

Why weren't you keen to give them the chance to prove you wrong on that point?

The league and title, quite a few as managers and we are looking for a manager aren't we ?
KM would be a mistake and will be done for one reason only.

What KM won as a player is totally and utterly irrelevent.  Do you think that players would be attracted to Villa because MacDonald won the league as a player 30 years ago?  Do you really think so?

I dont see how any one can pre-judge the Board until after the appointment, If it means sticking with KMac because the candidates available are not suitable then so be it

I was getting a little concerned we'd not had a comedy managerial suggestion today but now I've read Gus Poyet I'm satisfied that the stupid/sensible balance has been restored.

If the Board have done 50% of what General K has said they are they will have plenty of credible alternatives.
If they don't pick one and go for KM its simply economics and all the rhetoric about no change in policy and ambitions is just that empty talk.
So it won't happen.

I wasn't telling you that's what had happened, I said I was worried that it was a possibility. It still is but the statement on Sunday has reassured me somewhat.

So by your own measure, was your getting worked up over something which had not happened (owner pulling the funds / sell to buy / downscaling of ambition) also not ridiculous at the time?
