No it was not. Ball came out at him fairly fast and he needed to avoid the advancing goalkeeper combined with the fact that he was leaning back ended up in a shot about 6 inches over the bar.

I hadn't even realised England played tonight until listening to Radio 5 in my car this evening. Which is probably indicative of my interest in international football - zero.

Indeed. 51 and counting. Another imperious performance from Given, dispelled the myth about not commanding his area there in the first half by coming through Darren O'Dea and some Macedonian to punch clear. I'd give anything at this stage to have him between the sticks for Villa.

It wasn't an all-time bad like Rosenthal or Iwelumo. It was pretty bad though!

Downing should've scored at the end too. Hopefully Dalglish was watching and thought "nah, he's pish".
