Waking up to another night of glory for Tottingham makes me wonder if this could be the worst year for football for a long long time.  Imagine, Blues win the cup, Spurs win the Champions League and we get relegated.  *shudder*

A good job those things are about as likely to happen as Stevie Wonder winning Le Mans.

I can't bring myself to give Spurs credit for anything.  Listened to it on 5Live where Green and Pleat were creaming themselves over the performance.

It's not over yet - fingers crossed.

it was an awful game where spuds only plan was to hoof the ball up to crouch for knock downs against a dreadful milan performance....

got a result, but awful game..

It pains me to admit as well because I thought they were kind of getting by in the CL on beginner's luck and exuberance but it seems that it's going to take an excellent side to stop them at least reaching the final.

I didn't watch the game last night and from what I heard they played well, but I think your comment is a bit OTT. What an excellent side like Barca, Arsenal, Man U, Madrid, Bayern, Inter or Chelsea. Spurs can give any team a run for there money but over two legs I don't think they will have enough if they meet a team that are in good form.

As a side note it says a lot about the demise of Italian football that a poor Milan side are top of Serie A.

Edit. Sorry about the quote fail.

Seems to be a lot of sour grapes and petty small-mindedness on here. Villa have a proud record of achievement irrespective of who wins the European Cup or does well. It doesn't take away from past achievements. Does it make Villa's job harder if teams like Spurs are improving? Of course, but I'd rather Villa succeed when our competitors are also strong, rather than just being better than a load of rubbish. It detracts from whatever success you achieve in the future. It makes it far more worthwhile and commendable iof the road is long and hard, and I'd rather Villa beat a good Spurs (or whoever) on the pitch.

In that vein, I thought Spurs got a cracking result last night, and are showing a great deal of maturity in the way they play/set up. A team with Van der Vaart, Bale, Modric, Lennon et al - well, its lightyears from where we are at the moment. I love Villa, but I also love good football, and can appreciate it when I see it.

Good result, ordinary game.

If that had been a run of the mill PL game it would have been classed as poor. The only thing that elevated it was the importance of the match.

Spurs did well and have the look of a decent CL team. 'Arry has managed to coordinate PL pace and battle with good passing and discipline.

Having said that Milan and Italian football is currently very poor. Milan have some decent players but also a few hasbeens and mercenaries. Not sure Spurs will go all the way but they will get to Semi's I reckon.

That's very harsh on Spurs, they also kept the ball very well when they needed to - particularly in the last ten minutes with a lead to protect.

If you watch us this season, you'd think the general idea when in that situation would be to repeatedly give the ball back to the opposition and invite them on to you.

I hate Spurs. I hope they get fucked in the next leg. Them winning the CL doesn't bear thinking about.

English sides are now well equipped to go to Italy and win. Its something like 13 or 14 victories over Italian teams in the last 18 ties. That is impressive. There is very little pace in their attacks which mean that if itan attack breaks down they are unlikely t hurt you. Inter were great at doing it under Mourinho but Benitez changed their style and now it is the usual dour Italian stuff.

I'm gld they won, but as said before I don't want them, Arsenal, Chelsea to join our club. If for no other reSON THAN WE'D ONLY LEAVE OURSELVES ONE SONG TO SING WHEN PLAYING THEM. I'll stop shouting now.

The Big Sam on Twitter on fine form discussing Gattuso v Jordan.

TheBig_Sam BigSam
Gattuso looks like he should be leading a gang of street urchins. I bet he's an extraordinary pickpocket.

TheBig_Sam BigSam
Bet he has a hoop earring and wears Cuban heels. Let himself down tonight. Harry loves a player but I bet he only likes him after tonight.

TheBig_Sam BigSam
Just off the phone to Harry, as it happens. He said Joe Jordan "stole a horse from somewhere" and rode around Milan looking for Gattuso.

TheBig_Sam BigSam
"Gennaro!" he roared. "Show your face and feel my Celtic wrath! For I am Jordan. King of the Night." Awesome stuff from Joe, there.

TheBig_Sam BigSam
When he couldn't find him, Joe simply dismounted the steed, tore it in half & threw it into the river. Gattuso's messed with the wrong man.

Whilst i feel somwhat wrong saying this, well done Spurs, they did well.  I do think there would be a poetic irony if they were to become the first London club to win it at the first attempt, after all of Arse and Chelski's failings!!

what's petty and small minded about not liking Spurs? Nothing wrong with a bit of pointless malevolence.

Fair play to Spuds, I cant get my head around some on here wanting them to lose to an Italian club

What can't you get your head around? That some people don't suddenly start liking a team because they're playing a bunch of foreigners?
