In some ways I'm glad we never made the top 4 under the previous manager when we had the chance as our counter attacking style of giving the opposition 60% of the ball would've been brutally exposed at that level so it wouldn't have been much fun imo.

Spurs have so many good technical ball players they look comfortable at that level, only one in comparison we have is Ireland who's struggling to fit in here.

However, I do think the longer Spurs are in this competition the more they'll drop points in the prem so strangely I think we have a better chance of finishing above them this season than last.

They've already lost to West Ham and Wigan this season remember.

And we have lost to Newcastle,Stoke,Sunderland and played with 7 defenders/defensive midfielders at home to Blues

Yes I know, it's that sort of league this season. 4 and 5th imo will need fewer points than the previous two seasons.

I expect us to improve in the second half of the season.

Contrary to a few on here I think Bale is very close if not there to being world class. Good old fashioned wing play. I actually think Milner could have got to that level of performance but is too busy arguing with his team mates at Citeh. Your welcome back anytime Jimmy.

As I said the other day when someone mentioned it, Bale is on a different planet to Ashley and has been for a while now.

He'll end up going to a very big club, very soon, for a very large amount of money.

A big difference between Ash and Bale is that Ash thinks too much when he should do what Bale does and just attack the full back at full pelt. Ash will run at the defender, and then try to do too much and allow the rest of the defence to position themselves for the cross. Bale, just attacks and leaves the defence running backwards and out of position with his forwards running towards goal. He's turning into an outstanding attacking player.

We could argue that Albrighton has been a better winger than Ash this season. (not better player better winger)

Bale is so good of late that it must only be a matter of time before Redknapp starts tapping him up in the media.

For folk comparing spurs to us... I agree they are a level above us but the thing that really frustrates me is that the person I blame did a runner just before the start of the season. Spurs made better purchases in the transfer market (yes ones from abroad Martin, that place across the sea) and built a squad. Oneil purchased mediocre players on high wages and then didn't play them. Randy did provide the backing and I don't blame him for putting the brakes on.

Lots of people on here laughed when Redknapp said that "I'm a better manager than Martin O'Neill" piece a couple of years back, but he's proved it now.

I think he has to a certain extent. Oneil took us as far as he was ever going to. The next couple of transfer windows are crucial for us to catch up or we will get left behind. I wonder if Man Citeh will go after Bale in the summer or if Man u were to go after VDV. Imagine that scenario.

While I do agree about the cause, I will point out the most of the better players at Spurs were not purchased by 'Arry, in fact has he bought from abroad since he has been their apart from VDV?

And he was pretty much given VDV by Real at the last minute as they wanted him off their books and Spurs were the only CL club who wanted him/ he would go to. If we had got CL under MON last season that might well have been us with him instead ( and I know the European thing but I doubt even Martin would have turned him down (remember the Wesley Sneijder comments.))

That's the one strand of hope. For all their progress - and, let's be honest, they've left us behind - Spurs are every bit as susceptible as we are to having our best players lured away.

I can see VDV moving on elsewhere, and I can definitely see Bale doing so.

The only problem is that I can see Ashley going to Spurs to replace Bale.

On his current form would that be a bad thing in the grand scheme of things. I'm a big fan of Ash and hope he stays and rediscovers his form from a couple of seasons ago.

Those Sneijder comments say a lot.

The difference between Martin and Redknapp is that, whilst we hang on the Sneijder comments as some kind of proof that Martin was prepared to be ambitious and look abroad, Redknapp nipped in whilst nobody was watching and actually bought VDV, and for a snip.

It's a good point that Redknapp didn't buy a lot of their good players, but the fact is he's got excellent results out of them. If we use the fact he didn't buy them as a criticism, then surely by that measure, we should be suggesting Mancini gets cut some slack for the same reason.
