Very true Paulie. Martin was so frustrating during the transfer window. I'm not particularly fond of Arry but he is willing to rotate and certainly seems to motivate his players better. Spurs have built a good squad and have several options to change things around. We aren't a million miles away which is why I think the next two transfer windows are so important.

No more Bale hype plz. Yes, he's a good player (even though dodgy arry still thinks he's a LB lol) but nowhere near world class - that's a joke. How can you be world class when he's only been a regular in the spurs team for 6 months? Besides you can't really be world class if you're playing for spurs, you've got to play for a big club.

It's a great win for spurs tonight and congrats beating the champs, but I think spurs fans know deep down Bale will be leaving in either January or at the end of the season, no way would they be able to keep him, they're not big enough. Spurs are going through a good time right now, but in a couple of years time they'll go back to be an average mid-table team again... every team has it highs and lows.

I think Inter played poor tonight - but why does that surprise me with Rafa's tactics? If that was Jose's team they would of destroyed spurs.

Eh? So Bale's not that good because he's still playing for Spurs, but he'll be off in January to a big club? What do you think that the big clubs will see in him?

I think Spurs have got some wonderful players, I can't see them being broken as easily as we have been.

I was about to say the same, second paragraph totally at odds with first.

As for being mid table again in a couple of years, can you imagine how we'd be reacting on here had we even reached the CL, let alone qualified for the group phase, not to mention beaten the holders tonight and topping our group.

I hate Spurs as much as the next man, but let's be entirely honest about this, we've got plenty of reasons to be jealous of them right now. Sadly.

We know he can be economical with the truth and we only have his word for it but 'Arry did come out and say a deal had fallen through and he had a call 2 hours before the transfer deadline to ask if he was interested. He fell into 'Arrys lap rather then some mega deal although I will give 'Arry credit that he got into the CL knockout stages. If he wasn't in the CL league he wouldn't have got him.

But he was in the CL, because he got them there, and he did get him.

And as for telling the media one thing then going out and doing something totally different, who cares? If our manager did that, we'd be telling ourselves what a masterstroke he'd pulled.

It's all part of being canny in the transfer market, which is a gigantic failing our previous manager had. His idea of pulling a transfer coup this summer (had he stayed) would have been signing Aiden McGeady two weeks before the end of the window rather than one.

And I acknowledged that he got him into the CL and so got VDV!?! There is being canny in the transfer market and being in the right place at the right time. With VDV I believe it was the latter but then if we had been better managed the last few years it could well have been us.

It's quite simple really, would you rather be playing for spurs or the biggest clubs in the world where you'll be winning league titles and other numerous trophies and cups? Spurs can't offer Bale league titles or even finishing in the Champions League every season - teams like United, Barca and Real can. Why settle for second best at spurs when you could be playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world?

Even though I have dyslexia I don't think I could make it any more clear.

p.s. paulie I seem to remember quite a few of our fans mocking how finishing 4th in the league is considered some massive achievement.

It's not clear, though, in fact you're totally missing the point, in my opinion.

I was pointing out the contradiction between your saying he's not that good, then going on to say that some of the best clubs in the world will be after him, as you've just reiterated above.

I know Spurs can't hold on to him if the biggest clubs come after him. That's not really at doubt.

As for finishing 4th being not considered a massive acheivement, I think you might be thinking of people saying 6th wasn't a massive achievement.

Just to make one thing clear. I can't stand Spurs, I don't like the media love-in, I don't like Redknapp, I have met more obnoxious Spurs fans than I have fans of almost every other club.

However, I do think that grumbling about Bale, suggesting finishing 4th isn't a big deal, saying Inter made it easy for them, suggesting that he didn't really want to sign VDV, he just landed on his lap, saying we beat Inter too (20 years ago) etc etc, all of which we've seen on this thread, is a bit hollow when their fans have spent the evening watching their team soundly beat Inter to go top of their Champions League group, whilst our fans have been watching Mock The Week repeats on Dave / moaning about Spurs on the internet / washing our hair / whatever we've all been doing tonight.

Well two of those were mine. The first I can only go on what came out of Arrys mouth and the second was a joke, indicated with the <wink>.

Yeah, I know, and I felt bad dredging them up again, as I know you were joking, but if you hadn't said it in jest, someone would have said it in all seriousness.

If you think he's good now, just imagine when you see him putting those sort of performances in a white shirt... a Madrid white shirt, or in a United shirt etc... He could just be playing exactly the same way he is now, but because he'd be doing it for 1 of the biggest clubs it'd mean more to more people.

Like I said previously, he's been in this form for around 6 months and for only 6 months the hype of Bale has gone out of control. Yes he's in great form and deserves praise, but not just any silly statements like he's world class etc... You've got to be 'world class' for longer than 6 months I'm afraid, if he went to a big club he could potentially become world class. Too many people these days describe any old Tom, Dick or Harry as world class... there's a reason why it's called 'world class', only a small group of amazing players fit in that category.

I think Bale knows how good he is deep down and I also think he's know deep down that he'd rather be showing off his talents for one of the biggest clubs in the world where he could win loads and achieve greatness instead of playing for a medium sized club like spurs. It would be the same for any footballer in his inevitable postion.

One last thing I'd like to say on the issue of Bale. 'onest 'arry mentioned earlier yesterday that he believes Bale is still going to be a left-back. When Bale plays left-back he's very average, when he plays left-wing it's a different story. Two different players for two different postions.

It's quite obvious to me judging by his form that he is a left-winger.
