The letting Ferdinand stand there and join in the conversation between referee and assistant (Having, quite rightly just sent the Spurs players away) is the bit that really highlights the officials had lost their heads by that point.
The linesman's, sorry referee's assistant's action (whoa - too many apostrophes!! how should that be spelt?) was to put the flag in front of him, that is the indication of offside. To flag for handball he should have held the flag in tottenham's direction.Basically it was a fuck up by all concerned. With regard to the advantage, how long does a ref have to change his decision? To me, once signaled (and I have not seen footage of him doing this) then I'm not sure he can change it back to the original offence.
