Castilla (AKA Real Madrid reserves)

In 1980 they managed to get to the Spanish Cup Final, where they were beaten 6-1 by... Real Madrid.

However, the first team also won La Liga, which meant that the following season Castilla were the Spanish representatives in the Cup Winners Cup.  They were beaten in the first round by West Ham.

Hadjuk Split. As pointed out, mnay of those we remember from years ago are eastern block teams who folded or changed name. Red Star Belgrade are now Crvena Zvezda and still turn up in Europe. Tennis Borussia Berlin?

I'm not sure whether I am impressed with your collective knowledge or whether you need to get out more.

I remember Villa getting beaten by a Deportivo team containing an unknown (to me) Rivaldo and being absolutely disgusted.

Probably the best ever away performance I have seen at Villa Park was Celta Vigo.  Again a team of unknowns (apart from maybe Salgado) that ripped us a new a-hole.  I vaguely remember villa fans applauding them they were so good.

Happy days...

They were always Crvena Zvezda, I believe. It was just that in the past the English media used to anglicise their name but now they tend not to.

I know Bebeto played but I didn't know Rivaldo did ?
