Aston Villa coach (their only one) Steve Walford has just returned from a three month study of European coaching methods.
Steve spent time in Barcelona, Turin and at the famous footballing academy of Sporting Clube de Portugal, a club that have produced such home grown stars as Figo, Rui Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo.

When asked if he was to adopt any of the methods of the foreign coaches, Steve replied "Since I've returned to England, the first thing I did was to throw away all my socks".

For those folks that have actually been to some of the pre-season friendlies:

Have the team lined up in anything other than a 442 so far.  Just wondering whether we can look forward to seeing some different tactics this season.  

Before people use this question as an excuse to deride MON some more, I'm pretty sure he played 352 at Leicester and we played 433 for spell a while back so it is possible that he could change...

He played a sort of 4-4-1-1 against Peterborough. Finished the game against Walsall with the same formation too. I don't think we can read too much into it though. I can't see him changing his ways.
