Since when did unveiling the new kit become such a glitzy event?

The sooner this wonderful sport that I fell in love with as a young lad gets back to how it should be the better.

It wasn't all that long ago when signing a new player didn't get as much hype as unveiling a new kit.

We're all suckers for it though

In this internet age, we're all desperate for any sort of news at all.  It therefore makes it easy for the clubs to turn the smallest thing into a huge marketing event.

It's Friedel, Cuellar, Dunne, Petrov & Downing.

Seems more like a "creepy paedophile-like-smile convention" than a kit unveiling.

Kicks-off at 1pm ... and there's going to be a giant replica kit on display on the side of the ICC Birmingham.

Be nice to see Downing finally put in a shift in a Villa shirt.

I'm joking. I actually like him.

They have done well to keep the kit design under wraps this year.

As for the question, when did all this start, I seem to remember there was a big launch for our new away kit in 1999. It was a nice away kit that year.

Definitely. Last season was the same too, I didn't see leaked pictures anywhere.

Maybe it's just when it's a nice kit? Last years was launched in Spain (at the Peace Cup), as far away from fans as possible (which I think is because they knew it was a poor design), this year it's right in Town so everyone can marvel in its awesomeness.

If it is then you can all call me "Mr Fantastic" for the entire season.

Plus, I don't think Villa would get a giant replica on the ICC if it's a slight adaptation of last seasons. It must be something different ... it MUST BE!!

Probably right.

All I care about any new kit is that it has a claret body and blue sleeves.  I couldn't care less about any other aspect of it.

Yeah. Those paper-based kits are fantastic.
