I've no idea if he's improved since he left us or not, but he was a nice chap and I hope he does well at West Ham.

This pining for 2004 thing, here's hoping we don't sign Carlton Cole this summer.

Pinetastic.

Vassel could be availiable. I think he and Carlton could be the front pair we've been missing.

I actually remember thinking this after the first day of the 2004/5 season.

Its not pining really, its just recognition that some ex-players have improved. if he was the same player as when he played for us i wouldn't touch him with a bargepole but he isn't. Just like i wouldn't touch the on loan version of milner in 2010

Lazio didn't think he had improved that much, he only played about 6 games for them - and they were shite last year.

He's much better overall as a player now. Recognized German international, still has a cracking shot, and much better than Sidwell. He'd of improved the squad easily, and as stated, help us improve on the fact we barely ever shoot.

Maybe Martin didn't realise he had PL experience.

We'd have gone down without Milner that season.

He must have really improved, what with being fucked off by Stuttgart halfway through the season on a free, then spending 6 months at a poor Lazio before being again shown the door, then finally left out of the worst German squad for a long time, despite Ballack being crippled.

Just what we needed. Damn.

Seen a lot of him recently have you?

the amount of experts we have on here on every player in world football you do wonder how people have time for stuff like eating and having a shit.

i'm not really that bothered about him chris, but i do find it a bit odd that a 28 year old  50 cap german international who played in all their wc games, has won more than most of our players and who's available on a free is deemed by you not good enough for us currently, and yet you spend all your time on here defending total bobbins like Heskey, Sidwell, Harewood, Davies etc.,who are (apparently). its almost as if you form opinions on players solely on who buys them........ :0)

Are you sure he played in all of their WC games or is that one of your invented facts? Seems odd if he did that he's not in the squad now. He isn't good enough to get in our first team and I doubt that at this stage of his career he'd be willing to sit on our bench.

If you're not bothered why did you contribute to the thread? It's almost as if you're making a comment without giving it any thought. Surely not.

He played in all but one of their qualifying games apparently.  His omission from the finals squad is probably because he has only played five games since moving to Lazio in January.

So bombed out of Stuttgart and failed to impress at Lazio, hardly a ringing endorsement is it?

As I said at the start, he's decent but not for us at this time.

played in all but one of their games according to the bbc.  and i contributed because i'm pleased he's getting a new start and wished him well but as usual the MON paranoia "bat signal" went off and here you are in case there's a hint of criticism aimed at your idol. false alarm chris. :0)

The new manager was the reason Hitz was forced out of Stuttgart.. before that he was club captain. Sometimes managers just don't fancy a player.
