Good player but not right for a team with our ambitions.

Dunno - he's plenty good enough for upper mid table.

That is true, but surely our ambitions are a little higher?

Do you honestly think that Randy and MON's ambition is for us to be a mid table team?

Premier League without the Sky 4 runners up?

Hitzlsperger is a much better player now not that he was bad for us - he's played champions league and think he played in the Euro 2008 final for Germany? At 28 he's probably still got a bit more left in the tank surely a player with his experience would only improve our current shot shy team must be looking at similar type of players this transfer window - maybe this means Diamanti is surplus at West Ham?

Thanks Legion for putting the blues goal on - he picked me out for a bear in the celebrations followed by a pile on by the rest of the team, I can still hear Lee Hendries industrial languauge ringing in my ears!

I think you’re way off the mark. I don’t see him as any better or influential than NRC or Sidwell. In fact he and Sidwell must be card carrying members of the Magic Circle, their disappearing acts were so good.

If he were the same player who left us then true enough. But he's now much better than that.

On a free transfer he would have been an excellent addition to the squad.

Players improve all the time-sometimes due to innate talent and sometimes to good coaching or players around them.
We have had a number of players that we have let go who have continued to get better & we have also dumped a few who were just never that good.
The exceptions are players like Dunne (and God before him) who have never been given the recognition and just need the right kind of team or manager.
Whatever the situation is is notoriously difficult to predict, but funnily enough, a lot of the fans turn out to be consistently right about the bad 'uns to buy or sell. Marlon etc.
Milner will continue to improve as will Collins and a few others.  Ash improved a lot then seemed to stand still-this happens, but it can be worked on.
Keep our best players and make them world class.

I loved Tommy back in the day. And he may well have improved. But you have to ask yourself, if he's good enough for a better team, why didn't a better team than West Ham (anywhere in Europe, especially Germany) sign him?

If money is tight, doesnt it make sence to pick up a German International midfielder on a free transfer and ship out an unused sub like NRC or Sidwell.
No doubt in my mind Hitz wouldve been an asset to our shot shy team never mind the bench. We need to use all players available not just the starting 11.
Bringing on a goal scoring threat like Hitz instead of the tumbling bear wouldve given some hope of a goal towards the end of a nil-nil at least.
Watch him do just that for Wetspam at Villa Park this season !!!!!!

Nice kid, could hit a football as well as anyone, but he was a fucking shit central midfield player.

I'm convinced he's only got a far as he has because of that shot, the rest of his game isn't up to standard.

I'm growing ever more puzzled by this board as every day passes. Pages of posts wishing a good manager out of the door, and yet more bemoaning us not picking up a player who wasn't good enough 6 years ago, when we were shit, who's ended up at West Ham.

Are you all pining for 2004 or something?

I've no idea if he's improved since he left us or not, but he was a nice chap and I hope he does well at West Ham.

This pining for 2004 thing, here's hoping we don't sign Carlton Cole this summer.

Pinetastic.

Tommy is probably around his peak now...best of luck to him. He was one of the best things about that side during a pretty dire period for the club!

I thought he was great. I wish him well at West Ham apart from when they play us.

Vassel could be availiable. I think he and Carlton could be the front pair we've been missing.
