Easy to tell him to get facked and send a verbal spray his way, but he's probably right on this one.

From what I've heard Salifou is only on 2k a week. That being the case I'd happily keep him as a squad player. Its useless ****** like Heskey and Sidwell on massive wages that need to be shifted.

Two grand a week is still a hundred a year. That could pay for a lot of scouting.

Scouting that MON won't use. 100k for a player who can play 4-8 games a year if we stay in the cups is fine by me.

To be fair to Salifou, he's not been that bad when i've seen him play. He's got decent first touch, can pick a pass and doesn't remain completely anonymous a la Sidwell in the middle of the park.

Considering we now have a sell to buy policy and the squad isn't the biggest, I'm more than happy for Salifou to stay if he's only going to cost 2k a week.

Only a madman would sign a Celtic kid for anything approaching £9.5m.

Oh shit.

Celtic winger Aiden McGeady today issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to Villa after revealing he plans to snub a move to Spartak Moscow.

The Russians have had a bid of £9.5m accepted for the Republic of Ireland international but he confirmed he is cool on the transfer.

McGeady is keen for a move south of the border and Villa are believed to be interested.

He said: “I know all about the interest from Russia. Spartak are a famous club, but I don’t see myself signing for them.”

He never mentioned the Villa

Fuck off to Russia there's a good lad, signing him would hamper Albrighton in my opinion

Just having a quick shufti elsewhere and it's been noted 'an unnamed PL club' has put a bid in for McGeady.

Now, I'm in no way endorsing the transfer if it is us, or warming to the idea, but I'd like to know what your reactions would be if, hypothetically, McGeady had the game of his life against West Ham, scored a couple, made a couple and generally looked worth every penny?

Godawful question, if you don't mind me being so blunt. What do you think anyone would say but, 'bloody brilliant'? See Cole, Carlton. Doesn't mean much if he doesn't continue in that vein though.

Similarly your question could be countered by a similarly daft, 'What if he had a dead set shocker and looked worse than a two left-footed Gus Ceasar against West Ham, did feck-all, gave away the ball cheaply that led directly to two of their goals, and looked a clueless twat?

I don't think it's that bad an enquiry, considering I didn't intend it to be loaded. It's certainly more of a discussion point than the constant 'Where do you think we'll finish?' The aim was to see if people would still view it as a disappointing signing even if he made a great start - there are a number of sub-topics, such as whether or not it would buy O'Neill time with the doubters, whether it would instantly change people's minds, if it would cast the transfer window in a different light etc. Now we know your opinion, fantastic.

When did those who were against the Dunne signing change their minds?  Was it after his first gamefor us, his 6th, Christmas or at the end of last season?  As someone against the idea of signing McGeady, but who would give him a chance should it happen, I'd say that it's a slidng scale of:-

Really don't want him....good start but let's see if he can keep it up....OK, I may have been wrong on this one....certainly worth a place in the squad....Martin O'Neill, transfer genius, strikes again!!

That's presuming he play well, of course!!

Don't want McGeady either.

He's just mediocre.

Sums up our manager in the transfer market.

4 years on and so disappointed that the main links are McGeady and a Spurs bit part player.

Yet some of his best signings could be described as a relegation bound winger, a Man City cast off, a mid table left back, an over the hill keeper and a Newcastle squad player.

It's all about what the do when they put the claret and blue on!!

But it'll just be a snapshot of the bigger picture so not much use if it is supposed to be a worthwhile discussion point regarding whether the transfer was a hit. Remember it took Dennis Bergkamp 2 months to score when he was at Arsenal and was only seen as a so-so buy until then.

'Arry has said he thinks that the Milner deal is key to any transfers from here on;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/8878928.stm

I might be reading too much into it, but could that mean that we definitely have a deal lined-up for a Spurs player/s as and when Milner leaves...?

That is exactly what I thought when Harry mentioned it.

I think we've got Keane lined up already, just waiting for the cash/wage bill to be freed up. Also I think if we could get Ireland we'd not bother with Bentley.

That money to Spurs would then be spent by Harry, and so the chain continues.

I'm kind of coming round to the McGeady signing. I do think we need other types of players more but his signing would allow us to move Ashley back to the free role where he's excelled previously.

McGeady and Downing wide, Ash off the front in a 4-1-4-1.
